Pretty impressive numbers for a naturally aspirated engine. I wasn’t impressed with the initial C8 release but this has me wanting to ditch the C7.

This new Z06 Vette is all over the places, including right here in Detroit ...

Orange is not my favorite color, and I prefer the luxury model where you can see the engine from the rear window (I would change the inside color though, along with the outside...for blue navy inside and burgundy outside) ... that's me and my car color taste (same for high-end audiophile loudspeakers).

Great reveal. Really like this new Z06.

I’m told Chevy dealers are asking $50K-$100K over MSRP for it which is a deal breaker as far as I’m concerned. Altho, Porsche dealers are doing the same for the GT3 and GT3 Touring.

Give it a few years and this will go away for a C8 ZO6. Has always been this way for any of the Porsche GT cars. Waiting list or have some great dealer connections might get you one.

Horses for courses. As a previous owner of various Porsche GT cars and having driven many of the air-cooled predecessors, I would also prefer to drive a 993 on the street as it fits that purpose much better. Driving a super capable car at street legal speeds is boring at best... The 993 feels more alive, mechanical and communicative at anything resembling street sane driving. Better yet a nice condition 964 would be my personal choice of a fun car, which feels even more mechanical and connected to the road with all of its quirky old school charm.

When I had a chance to drive a Carrera GT with its silly (for the street) $15k ceramic composite clutch (replacement cost of unit) which had to be computer assisted for street driving, I was once again reminded why people are willing to pay the crazy premiums for such cars. Of course the other thought was why anyone would want to drive a car such as the Carrera GT on the street at normal speeds is beyond me. Pushing a car like the Carrera GT on the other hand, even in the experienced hands, has led to tragic outcomes for quite a few owners... RIP Paul Walker...

Can't go wrong with a rare Porsche, Ferrari, etc if you can afford it. Corvettes are nice and their day will also come in the decades ahead. Anyone holding on to a manual Z06 at this point would be wise to keep holding... All the manual collector grade cars will be worth more

Yep, a 964 is a fun part of history of a 911 and a great street car.

That wasn’t a wet blanket. A wet blanket is a reminder it would not be wise to buy a first year product.

I made that mistake twice in my life with Corvettes and a Z06 (2001) and have to say never again for me. Could not even find a local corvette certified mechanic between 7 Chevy dealerships in those years. Absurd… The only time that car did not have a problem was on its maiden voyage from FC Kerbeck to the house.

Still I bought my son a C6 years later again to regret it… problems and piss poor resale value.

Having your friend show off his brand new C7 Corvette a few years later and have the whole weather stripping fall off the rear hatch as he opened it for me and then having to bring a car in and threaten to sue because the factory somehow let the car out with a totally dry diff was the icing on a cake.

But I digress, when things are going good, it’s a great value performance car.

    Re: Todays C8 ZO6 Reveal .........

Dave, the well known problem of excessive oil consumption with the LS6 engine as well as all kinds of ECU glitches, traction control, active handling, etc.. The engine also seemed very anemic to me from day one. Just not what I excepted a Z06 should be power wise and I am sure that engine was not up to its full potential...

Problem was I could not even find a Corvette certified mechanic as they were as rare as unicorns for some strange reason! Chevy dealers that sold Corvettes and yet could not service them! Absurd. I am sure it is different now.

I finally had enough when the side passenger window would not go back up as it started to rain and I had to find a shelter from the pouring rain instead of making a business meeting... In a bout of total frustration and outrage over the crap ownership experience I have unleashed on myself with that purchase, I took that car to the first car dealer on the way (BMW) and drove away in a brand new 2002 M3. That turned out to be a fantastic ride which I kept for some years. That E46 gen M3 with the S54 straight-six engine felt quicker and more planted with a better sorted out suspension tuning than the Z06.

I don't dislike Corvettes overall, I have owned a "few". Just never been lucky with them.

Dave, some of the issues in the 2001 were addressed with the 2002 model. Not to mention in one year’s time, GM updated the 2002 model. LS6 engine output was increased to 405 hp (302 kW) due to a larger CFM air intake, stiffer valve springs, lighter sodium filled valves and more aggressive camshaft lift and timing. I bet yours drives much closer to a deserving Z06 spec than mine ever did.

I’m glad you are enjoying your Z06. Hold on to it

yes and some of the later production '02's and early '03's did in fact have valve issues as did a group of C6 ZO6's.

I do believe the C8 ZO6 will be GM's last great development in ICE technology
    Cheers ! …. Dave

I am just as excited as all the other car guys but do we really think GM can make a “RELIABLE’” engine as complicated as this? Not to mention finding a dealer who could actually work on it when something fails. Sorry got up on the pessimist side of the bed this morning.

I have run into this issue some 20 years back, I don't know what the current situation is but I would imagine Corvette certified mechanics are more plentiful today.

Yeah I get that and to Serge's point on his ZO6 twenty years ago there is no doubt it will be a point of concern. But as a guy who's been accused of having a 'Bow Tie' tattooed on his backside I'm taking a leap of faith that the company that introduced one of the best V8 engines of all time some 66 years ago will make their crowning achievement of ICE technology a great one, time will tell ..........

the LT6's reliability remains to be seen but it will be a maintenance headache with a solid valvetrain. where most American iron use hydraulic valve lash adjusters, the LT6 uses valve caps and computer ground shims--another reason each LT6 is built by one person. Valve shims means more frequent and costly maintenance intervals (mostly labor). Unless GM has cracked the code on halving the necessary man hours to adjust the new valvetrain, me thinks the new Z06 will be costly to maintain.

Don’t get me started on the GM hydraulic cylinder on demand lifters. I have had two catastrophic failures luckily both were covered under warranty. I welcome the solid valvetrain.

Even after I submit my name for a reservation next week, it is likely that at best, I will get a second year car. I am going to get one as long as the MSRP doesn’t skyrocket. My dealer will sell at MSRP but it might be beyond my desires. Too early to tell.

I am not worried about Corvette mechanics, first year issues at all. I have an umbrella for all the rain falling here.

I find myself wondering why are people talking about Porsche on a Corvette thread and why are people throwing wet blankets on others' enthusiasm for Vettes?

Also problems 10-20 years ago with a car have NOTHING to do with a manufacturer's build quality today or else the conversation could get a lot longer on both sides

Having driven my ‘17 GS on the track many days, while it may be easier to drive on the track than the comparable Z06, it is definitely not faster than a Z06. I am usually with them around most of my ‘local’ track but they simply pull away from me on the straight sections. After a few laps, they are quite a bit ahead of me. Nothing like horsepower.

I bet we have crossed paths on the local tracks, I see you are in SC. I actually have turned my best lap times in a BMW E30 D Mod race car. Not always about brute HP.

My local track is Roebling Road. That is the only track I have driven my ‘17 on.

I understand what you are saying. Maybe I should have said ‘all things being equal’ horsepower wins. 😀

IF it was a road race, I might be able to hold them off for a few laps but I don’t think that would be for long unless the driver of the Z06 sucked. 🤪
