A ticket for 110 over in a 70 zone
The Michigan State Police issued a ticket about a week ago to a driver for exceeding the 70mph limit by 110mph.
Michigan State Police have cited a driver for, get this, traveling 110 miles per hour over the speed limit. They say they clocked the driver, who was driving a 2016 Dodge Challenger, going 180 mph in a 70 mph zone.
They sent a redacted version of the ticket which you can see below. State troopers issued the ticket at 11:45 p.m. on Sunday, April 19 on southbound I-75 near Sigler Rd. in Monroe County.
How did they actually catch a driver going that fast? MSP tells MLive there were other troopers in the area further down the freeway to help and the driver did stop for them.

Re: A ticket for 110 over in a 70 zone
WOW!!! As a former police detective, I would ask some questions:
(1) When was the last time the radar device was calibrated?
(2) Since it is noted that the officer in question was running "stationary radar" how fast did the officer go in order to catch up with said suspect? (Maybe there were some other officers working down the road - not unusual for sure, esp. when your close to the state line)
(3) From other news articles I see that the person was racing with another vehicle. What kind of vehicle eluded the police? I want one
He may be looking at a racing charge, and reckless driving which means not only a hefty fine and some points, but some possible jail time too ... He should get an atty.
Andretti (who has some interesting speeding stories) might be jealous ...

Re: A ticket for 110 over in a 70 zone
Yes, that's probably what happened. But that is what a News Station (MLive) reported and they are notorious for getting the facts wrong or leaving something substantial out - or the police may not have told them "all" the facts, etc. ... So, it depends upon what the officer literally attests to. That's why I mentioned it.

While Dodge does make a Charger with 707 horsepower (it's an extra cost option) it's a 2020 model not a 2016 model.

Yea, my guess is that that someone may be in trouble for posting it. A good defense attorney can use such type event to make some points against the police conduct in the case and then use that to attack the radar reading itself. Probably won't work, but you never know.

interesting, regardless of what year it was, it wasn't stock ! The handful of Hellcat Challengers I know of don't have the gearing capable of 180 mph

According to Dodge....
The Challenger SRT® Hellcat can cover a quarter mile in 11.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 199 MPH.

Re: A ticket for 110 over in a 70 zone
correct, Dodges operative word is 'can', no doubt it has the HP to pull gears capable of 200 mph but if you wanna run low 10's to high 9's you're gonna need 4.10-4.33, perhaps even taller depending on the trans. The few guys I know with the car run low -mid 10's (slicks and adj shocks)
Cheers ! …. Dave

Re: A ticket for 110 over in a 70 zone
Wow. I did once 190 mph in Warsaw in a friend's Audi R8 V10 (190 in 50 zone).
That was a dead end of a partialy opened freeway, with 3 lanes and zero traffic, so no police either.Adam

Re: A ticket for 110 over in a 70 zone
I own a Challenger. When I heard this story my first thought was "Charger or Challenger?" The Scat Pack models can do 180 easily unless the rear end gearing has been changed to run quarter mile races.

Re: A ticket for 110 over in a 70 zone
LOL...
The Hellcat has an 8-speed transmission, not some old school 3-speed or 4-speed slush bucket. The Hellcat's transmission has plenty of gearing for great 1/4 mile numbers as well as top speed numbers to and above 199 mph. I have a friend with a 2018 Hellcat, and I have seen what it is capable of, several times.Pass Labs XP-20 | Auralic Altair G1 | Odyssey Audio Stratos Monoblocks | JVC XL-Z411 | Nakamichi DR-1 | Technics SL-1700MK2 | Magnepan 1.7i | SVS PB-1000 Pro x 2
