I had one. A 26' SeaRay. Sold it to my buddy because I worried about all the stuff I needed to do to winterize it. And all the horror stories.

I wish I still had it. Especially this last year. It's easy to have fun and socially distance on a boat.

Had a few boats some years ago. Last one was a nice Monterey camper. Home away from home with two beds, shower, fridge, stove, tv and all that jazz ... It was fun spending the weekends and nights out on the water (Chesapeake Bay) with that boat but as the kids grew up it was used less and less. Sold it years ago. If I lived closer to the water and especially down South where I could use it more often, I’d still be into a nice day boat. (Probably)

    Yes

But I can't seem to be able to Insert Image. I'm only offered a box that accepts URL address. I'm sure I've added images before, but it seems impossible on this thread. Any suggestions?

OK - it can be done by Editing an already posted post! How odd that an extra line appears in Edit that includes an "Attachments" option. This seems to work.

OK, thanks Mike, but a bit convoluted and unintuitive.

Why doesn't Insert Image allow one to do just that - insert an image from one's photo album? And Go Advanced isn't on offer if one wants to simply Reply to Thread.

Because that’s an add on module that was creating double posts, so we had to disable it.

    Nice boat. Big!

Beautiful boat! Or should I say (when you can fit a car on it), beautiful ship!

In Holland, where the boat spends much of its time and where it was built, it's known as a "schip", but that applies to just about anything with an engine that floats!

Looks idyllic - beautiful part of the world. The original owner of my boat (he built it in 2004) used to visit Île du Frioul and the other islands south of Marseilles for his holidays, but the boat normally lives on fresh water! Peter

Boats? Any folks here with a boat?

Here’s mine. Took the picture yesterday. I usually leave the Bimini tied up unless we are going to the sand bars for the day.

(Here is a picture with the Bimini fully extended. Stock photo).

It’s a 30 foot Regal. Dual Yamaha OB screws. Head (my wife demanded this). Optimus Joystick with autopilot. Power Tower. Garmin Nav with sonar. 2018, bought it with 90 hours on it. Yeah it has a stereo. Fusion or something.

I took her south about 30 miles yesterday in the Gulf (the intercoastal is too slow). Only have to worry about the crab traps in the Gulf. I usually go 3-5 miles out so I avoid them. Cruised down to Venice FL at about 35mph. Peeked in at Stephen King’s house. Secluded as hell at the end of Casey Key.

We were members of the boat club, it sucked. You have to book 3-4 weeks out to get a boat. Then your day comes and it’s raining. And their boats sucked. Small and break all the time. Much prefer owning. Now, I call up and in an hour or less my boat is in the water. The facility is right on the water so that giant forklift you see in the picture below grabs your boat from the rack and puts it into the water. Pretty cool. Our facility is one of the biggest with about 450 boats and PWC’s.

I keep it in a high and dry not too far from our house:

    Mike,
Gorgeous boat! If you don't mind my asking, how much do you pay for a boat like this? And how much does the facility charge for storing the boat?
    Thanks

The storage is $310/month. For comparison purposes, I was in the boat club which was $425/month. Their boats were 19 foot crappers that broke. They literally bought the Lada of boats for the fleet. They had no head, no electronics. Nothing.

The $310/month is all inclusive. They wash the exterior of the boat and flush the engines after every use as well for that (I’m a generous tipper though). They also sell boat slips for about $20k-$30k and about $125/every quarter for fees. I may buy one, probably not. It’s 10+ years for the break even.

As for the cost of the boat, I’m sure you can do some research. I’m happy to PM you if you really want to know.

Thank you. Mine too! I like that they are made here in Florida. I also like the Cobalt’s, but heard since the company was sold they aren’t quite up to their old standards. We did look long and hard at a SeaRay, but didn’t feel the build quality was quite there.

Thanks! It sure is a cool option. It’s obviously great for docking in tough conditions, but I especially appreciate the virtual anchor. Press two buttons and the satellite GPS keeps the boat locked in that position. That comes in handy when you’re waiting for a slip to clear.

I’m an addicted saltwater fly fisherman for 20 years (mostly tarpon). I’ve often thought of my own boat, but I really don’t know anything about it, and then you’d have to find the tarpon, and deal with the wind and the sun and the tide - net cheaper for me to use a guide .... (but I’d still love a flats boat).

Always like fishing for tarpon around Homossasa around St Martins Key to Crystal River from late April or the 1st of May from the open water. Some big fish migrating. Where I live now, I just never used it that much. Hopefully next year I can get back to "fun"..

Re: Boats? Any folks here with a boat?

Nice Regal Mike. Perfect day boat. I also kept my Monterey camper (overnight boat with a bedroom and a kitchen or home away from home as my kids called it) in a High and Dry on the Chesapeake. Would not do it any other way.

Pricey, yes, but what isn't with boat ownership but also very convenient. Waking up, making breakfast, swimming, pulling the kids on tubes and other water toys, cruising around and then spending the evening watching the sunset, dropping the anchor and spending the night on the water in a cove somewhere on the Chesapeake was priceless. As I mentioned somewhere above, if I was to return to boating, perhaps a nice day boat similar to your Regal would be what I would go for.
