MQA Core decoding coming for Aurender N10

As reported on another forum, an Aurender dealer is telling customers the MQA core decoding firmware is coming to the Aurender N10, possibly before the end of this month. It appears that Aurender has completed a licensing agreement with MQA to offer a paid upgrade that would allow N10 users to enable MQA core decoding for use with non-MQA DAC hardware or MQA certified Renderer hardware. It was stated that the MQA firmware upgrade has gone through and passed all MQA certification testing and is ready to be offered to users. Implementation will come as a $50.00 download from the Apple App Store. This firmware is not yet available for download because Aurender is waiting for Apple to approve the software/firmware upgrade and get it up on the Apple App Store. It is said that Aurender expects the MQA core decoding firmware will be available this month (December, 2017). I expect this decoding firmware will also support the Aurender W20. Depending on the necessary processor power, I hope this MQA firmware upgrade will also work on the Aurender N100H and N100C.

This is exciting news. I have my fingers crossed the information is true and accurate.

What does this mean in practical terms? Will I be able to play MQA files at full resolution (24/96, 24/192) through my non-MQA DAC?

No... if this proves to be true then the Aurender N10 would function similarly to the Lumin U1 in regards to how it will handle MQA by providing MQA Core decoding only (the first unfold typically to 88.2 or 96kHz) which could be converted to analog at that frequency by a non-MQA DAC or fully MQA decoded when processed by a DAC that functions as an MQA Renderer. Hope that helps!
