    Aurender and Roon

    Looking forward to the comparison.

In theory, if both Conductor and Roon are sending an identical bit-perfect, unaltered digital signal AND the Aurender hardware does a good job of eliminating any noise over the wired ethernet connection, the difference should be minimal to non-existent. If the signal is the same yet the SQ difference is relatively large it will be fun to try and figure out why.

We shall see. Roon is super noisy.

When I learned at AXPONA 2024 that the N20 was made Roon ready, I was kind of excited but now I'm not so certain. While I enjoy Aurender's Conductor enormously and it has improved as my system has improved, I would like to have better curation/information available about the music I am streaming. From what I can tell Roon contains a lot, if not all, of the information I seek (lyrics, band member/musician names, "liner" notes, etc).

But adding Roon is not free so, rhetorically speaking, if sound quality (which is paramount for me) is diminished why bother with the effort or expense? Oh well, first world problems I guess.

Suggestion: run Roon core on a computer in your house. Laptop is fine. Try roon on the aurender (free demo) and compare. If you prefer roon (it’s the best UI, but sonically inferior IMO), then buy a roon core (roon makes nice ones) and consider subscription options.
