Aurender N100H Is In The House - Transferring Music Very Slow

Just received my Aurender N100H. (Thanks Mike) When transferring music from my external USB HDD to the N100H HDD it is extremely slow. In 8 hours only 28GB has been transferred. So in my calculations to transfer a little over 3TB of music it will take over a month.

    What gives? Is this normal?

It was very slow for me as well. Not that slow however. Are you trying to do all at once? I think they said to do perhaps 100 albums at a time. I would contact Aurender as they were very good at responding to questions although usually the next day. Perhaps due to being in South Korea?

Re: Aurender N100H Is In The House - Transferring Music Very Slow

I got mine a couple of months ago, and have a gigabit router and Cat 6a wiring in the house, which may or may not be a factor. Maximum theoretical transfer rate on a gigabit setup is 125MB/sec, but in the real world hard drive speed plays a major factor. The Aurender drives are slow by design (less vibration and noise). I recall seeing actual transfers in the neighborhood of 60MB/sec. Your 28GB shoudl take no more than a couple of minutes, and your full 3TB somewhere around 6-7 hours.

Re: Aurender N100H Is In The House - Transferring Music Very Slow

    Hi Mike,

Just sent you a PM. I just received a response from Aurender. See below.

    Jesse replied:
    Hello Paul,

"Thank you for contacting us and for choosing an Aurender music server. One of the engineers checked your unit and everything looks normal, he said the connected disk is USB 2.0 so it will be a little slow, however 28.0GB in 8 hours is abnormally slow. Usually, using the Smart Copy process, this amount of data (3TB) would probably take about a day to transfer to the Aurender.

Would it be possible for you to send a screenshot of the Copy Status on the App? You can take a screenshot with the iPad as shown at the link: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT200289
The Copy Status can be found as shown on the last image at the following link: http://support.aurender.com/smart-copy-from-usb.html
Also, would you mind sharing which dealer you purchased the N100H from and which DAC you are using with the unit?"

    Best Regards,

    Jesse

Re: Aurender N100H Is In The House - Transferring Music Very Slow

    ***Update***

I believe the issue was with my Seagate 5TB external HDD. See Jesse's response to me below.

    Hello Paul

"This is an unusual problem and I’ve requested some more information from the engineers about this. Since it is the weekend in Korea, it may take a couple of days before I hear back from them. In the meantime, would it be possible to cancel the copy and try transferring some of the content (not all, but enough to be a lot) and see if it still works slowly?

I’ve never seen this happen before so it also may help to know the make and model of the USB hard disk you are using and also the file system on the disk.

Further, if the USB disk works with or without a power supply, have you tried it with or without the power supply to see if there is any change?"

    Best Regards,

    Jesse

So before I responded I thought maybe it is my USB HDD so I went to the bullpen and brought in my OWC backup HDD.

Well all I can say is with the Seagate HDD in about 8 hours I transferred only 28GB of music. With the OWC HDD I'm currently at 30GB in about 15 minuets.

Not sure why this would be an issue with my Seagate HDD but all I can say is that because of Aurender's excellent customer service I am on my way.

    P.S.

Jesse's email to me was on Saturday 9:32AM Korea time. Not bad customer service.

Thanks Dan.....I couldn't be happier! I'm sure we can all agree on that when something is not right with any part of our system it can be frustrating. A quick response can calm the nerves. In my case Aurender's customer service is above and beyond.

It also doesn't hurt that the N100H sounds incredible. A huge step up from my Mac-Mini. I'm sure it will improve even more over time.

Wow just realized its 1:38am and I'm still listening. Maybe just one more album.

This is an old thread but...I have a N100C coming in shortly and have a question.
All my music is in a file called"MUSIC" listed alphabetically on a external HD..is the best way to transfer all of the music by point and drag to the internal HD? Point and drag each individual artist would be a pain.v

That's how I transferred music from computer HD to my N100H. My equivalent of your "Music" folder had sub-folders for each artist, with albums a level down from that. I did a drag-and-drop of the master folder, everything copied over without issue, and the Aurender could read and process the result just fine. Just be aware that the Aurender is (by design) not a speed demon. It'll take longer to copy than you think it should, but it really is working.

What Jeff said. Drag the music folder and all sub folders will follow. Congratulations on the N100C. It sounds fantastic.
