Aurender drop out problem
AURENDER DROP OUT PROBLEM
I’ve owned an Aurender N10 for a few years and never had any problems with it until recently over the past few weeks where the music will occasionally drop out for 1-2 seconds. I use it with 2 DACs utilizing USB, XLR, coax, and BNC connections. It happens with both DACs and all outputs. I’m do not use it with Qobuz or Tidal, but with mainly my 16/44 ripped CDs and a few HiRez recordings.
During a typical listening session of several 3-4 hours, it will occur up to 4 times, but sometimes not at all. I’ve tried rebooting it and also clear the cache, but neither have helped. I’ve not made any changes to the settings.
I’ve sent a help request to Aurender, but no reply yet.
Does anyone have any ideas what might be the cause? My fear is that the hard drive might be starting to fail?STEREO: Roon Nucleus, DCS Rossini DAC & Clock, Ayre KX-R TWENTY, Ayre MX-R TWENTY, Sonus Faber Stradivari speakers, WireWorld Platinum Eclipse 8 interconnects, and speaker cables, Shunyata Research Omega power cords, Shunyata Everest power distributor with Omega power cord, Dedicated 20amp AC lines with Oyaide Duplexes.

Re: Aurender drop out problem
I have exactly the same issue, periodic dropouts on music stored on the internal HDD, occurrences is entirely random. Aurender has not yet resolved it. I also use the Ayre QX 5twenty dac. Could it be the operating ard disk is a bit tired as I have used the N10 for 5 years already?

Re: Aurender drop out problem
Yes, I’ve had back and forth’s with tech support and they have remotely checked out my N10 without success.
I was also told, “Our software team did check your machine remotely and everything looks normal. HDD and SSD health looks good, no errors at all. So unfortunately that doesn’t help us much.”
Then they wanted me to do a “SSD Recovery,” but when I attempted that when on the phone with Aurender Support, my N10 got stuck and would not finish the SSD Recovery. Next Support was going to have Aurender in Korea attempt to do the SSD Recovery, but nothing was done, so again I contacted support today. It now is supposed to be done on their side. If that is not successful then I was told, “Please try to memo the date and time that and song that was playing when the drop out occurs. At that point please put into support mode by sending another support e-mail from the app. Please do not restart it after the drop out occurs until our guys have had a chance to check the logs. If it is a software thing, they’ll need some indication of the problems.”
At this point, this has been most frustrating with no resolution despite contacting Aurender Support. BTW, I’ve owned my Aurender since 2016 without a glitch until just recently.
My local dealer is aware of my problem too, and said that if this is not resolved, then then the Roon Nucleus is an option to consider.
Anyway, my dropouts have now become none to one per during a 2-4 hour listening session.
I’ll update anything new to those interested as to what happens and if there is resolution.STEREO: Roon Nucleus, DCS Rossini DAC & Clock, Ayre KX-R TWENTY, Ayre MX-R TWENTY, Sonus Faber Stradivari speakers, WireWorld Platinum Eclipse 8 interconnects, and speaker cables, Shunyata Research Omega power cords, Shunyata Everest power distributor with Omega power cord, Dedicated 20amp AC lines with Oyaide Duplexes.

Re: Aurender drop out problem
So I’m not the only one! Mine are also totally random. my dropouts have actually recently lessened from 3-4 per listening session to none to one. They often appear to occur shortly after a start a new disk, but not always.
I do have all my music backed up on an external hard drive and also concerned that it might be a failing hard drive.
BTW, the dropouts occur on both my DACs and all outputs of my Aurender.

From a problem diagnosis point of view, I suggest you try playing music not from the internal storage. Either sign up for a Tidal / Qobuz trial or play music from NAS:

I occasionally (once a month or so) get a dropout after a song starts on my Lumin. I always assumed it was a problem with the file being played, but since it is so rare I have never bothered to troubleshoot it.

Re: Aurender drop out problem
Does it only happen when a song changes from one sample rate to another? For example if you are playing a flac file at 16/44.1 and then the next song is 24/96 or even dsd, WAV, AIFF etc.? If so then click on the advanced setting and check the “Playback delay to allow the DAC to adjust to the new sample rate” If none or 1 second is selected I would change to 2 or 3 seconds to allow the dac to adjust to the new sample rate..
Hope this helps!Paul

Re: Aurender drop out problem
Ironically, I’ve had no dropouts occur during my last 3-4 listening sessions. Aurender support have been great which is indicative of a great company.
Below is what has been done so far and Aurender Support’s last reply to me in the paragraph below. I will first unplug my USB connection temporarily, but first want to see if I get anymore dropouts since I’ve had none during my last listening sessions. Knock on wood! If I get another dropout, I will run the “SSD recovery.” Anyway, here is the last reply from Aurender Support:
“Our SW team has rebuilt the recovery module in your N10. So, if you want to try to run the SSD recovery again via the instructions provided previously, please do so. It couldn't hurt.
- We've checked on the HDD and SSD and they are both healthy.
- We understand that this system has previously worked in the connection scheme you're using now without issue. But, in some scenarios, it is possible for a USB connection to a DAC to affect the operation of the SPDIF outputs. In most cases, it shouldn't, but it is possible. Connecting SPDIF outputs to a DAC could not affect the operation of USB output, but the opposite could occur. Also, connecting any/all/none of the SPDIF outputs to a DAC will not make any difference to the operation of software because SPDIF is uni directional. In this case, the software does not know whether the other end is connected to a DAC or not.
So, perhaps before you try the SSD recovery again, I suggest that you try leaving the USB audio cable unplugged for a few days and see if the drop out problem persists with USB disconnected. If it does, then, unfortunately we are still faced with a mystery. But, if that solves the problem, then we can try to narrow down whether it's a USB cable problem, an issue with the USB ports on either the Aurender or DAC side, or possibly some kind of USB compatibility issue with the SPDIF combination as you have it wired.”

Re: Aurender drop out problem
Things we’re looking good regarding my dropouts, but after being away from home for a week, they have started up again after I returned home. I do not stream and these are all from 16/44 ripped disks disks stored to my N10. I’ve owned my Aurender since February 2016, and have never had any problems until recently. As stated before, my Aurender has been checked out remotely by Aurender and the HDD and SSD are ok according to them. I’ve also disconnected the USB output as recommended by Aurender, but that did not help.

Re: Aurender drop out problem
Probably not a network problem. As I mentioned before, I don’t do streaming on my N10, but only 16/44.1 ripped disks which are stored in the HDD of the Aurender which I’ve played many times since owning my N10 in February 2016. Furthermore, we regularly stream movies on the same network in our home theater system, some which are 4K HDR, and have had absolutely no dropouts in there; either audio or video. At this time, the dropouts in my stereo have stopped and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this is the end of it.

Re: Aurender drop out problem
Thanks @UltraFast69,
Yes, hopefully so. Since the dropouts are infrequent, it might take them awhile to find the source of the problem. At least I have my SACD collection of 131 disks and various CDs to spin on my transport in the meantime. According to my tracking number, Aurender should get my N10 tomorrow morning and Ari told me that they aren’t that busy now which is a good thing. i’ll post updates for anyone that might be interested.STEREO: Roon Nucleus, DCS Rossini DAC & Clock, Ayre KX-R TWENTY, Ayre MX-R TWENTY, Sonus Faber Stradivari speakers, WireWorld Platinum Eclipse 8 interconnects, and speaker cables, Shunyata Research Omega power cords, Shunyata Everest power distributor with Omega power cord, Dedicated 20amp AC lines with Oyaide Duplexes.

As the N10 does not seems to be resolved after so many months, I am loosing patience and wish to ask whether anyone has experience with using Roon as as a replacement to Aurender? Any ideas on hard ware hook,I have about 4- 5TB of high resolution music?

Re: Aurender drop out problem
Yes, but only using a Apple computer that worked for the time but replaced with N10. Though the Roon interface is nice IMO.
I really would look at your network, and what Aurender connects to, and the file size you are trying to play
Assuming all that is ok, request a RTN and send it in as painful as that is.
You have an excellent piece!

@Mattie. My local high end dealer who originally sold me my N10 recommends Roon Nucleus as an alternative to Aurender N10 and speaks highly of Roon and the Roon Nucleus. If I continue to have issues with my N10 once that it comes back from service, I am going to check out the Nucleus.

I noticed the dropout occurs mainly with music stored in Music1, so I suspect the HDD may be getting worn out and is thinking of attempting to replace a new 2TB, (or even 4TB, but remembered someone mentioned the 2 HDD must be same size?).
Can anyone teach me how best to go about this on an N10? Thxs

I’m curious, you sent the unit too Aurender. What did they find? My N10 which is about as old as yours started to do the same thing.

Re: Aurender drop out problem
I have used Roon for quite a while now. It replaced my Logitech Music Server and a Sony app that is similar to the Aurender app.
I have had absolutely no problems with Roon. It is solid. I believe that most folks experiencing Roon issues is because of their set up and not because of Roon.
I have no experience with the Aurender app but based on what I have read it is similar to the Sony app (except that the Aurender does Tidsl/Qobuz and Sony only does Spotify). The Sony app works fine and has an ok music interface but it does not have the versatility or power of Roon.
Something to consider: In the case of the Sony and Aurender units, when you sent the unit away for service, your music goes away too. And if your drive fails, unless your music is being backed up automatically every day, you will lose some music too.
I decided to use a music service as my primary music source. Then you can always have your library available to multiple devices and never have to worry if your hard drive or SSD is failing. Just my 2cents.

Re: Aurender drop out problem
Aurender tried remote check my N10 and do not have any solutions. They are not helpful. They kept saying this is a unique problem but apparently it’s not? Maybe you can also write to Camille and mention the same issue. I still suspect it’s the hdd getting old.

Re: Aurender drop out problem
Dear Fm540i, That’s a great idea, I think eventually the hard disk will get tired and replacement is inevitable. I wish to replace mine, can you be kind enough to show me how best to go about doing it. If you think more appropriate, I can give you my email

Re: Aurender drop out problem
You need to be able to format a new SSD in Ext4. It’s a Linux format. Aurender runs Linux. The SSD has 4 partitions. Data, ?, Linux swap, music cache which is the largest partition. I was surprised to find my music cache partition had nearly 160gb of data. I thought the cache was cleared after use.
It requires 2 USB to Sata3 adapters, a USB stick 7-10gb, Linux Live Boot Creator, and Clonezilla Live ISO.
I can do it for you but youÂ’d have to mail me the SSD, old and new.

Re: Aurender drop out problem
The new update to the software coming very soon (next week) allows formatting of SSD’s. In the meantime, Aurender can do it for you remotely, just open a remote support ticket through the app. They did it for me last week. Remember to use Folder View at the top to confirm format.

Wow, sounds complicated. I will have my friend who’s a computer engineer to see whether he can do it locally!

Re: Aurender drop out problem
Great news from Mike below. If true it will make it much easier. It’s actually easy but if Aurender builds it in to the Operating System it would be great.
My new Samsung 960 SSD seems more responsive than the SSD that’s been running for the last 5-6 years. Next I’ll change out memory from 4gb to 8gb. It’s really easy.
Reach out if you need help.

That would be great news. Looking forward to giving it a try. I have another N10 to update.

Re: Aurender drop out problem
I’ve successfully upgraded my stock N10 Evo 950 250gb ssd with a new 512gb 950 Pro ssd. Download DiskGenius ( it’s free) do a sector by sector (takes nearly 2 hours) clone then expand sector 6 the cache partition to the full remaining disk space.
Boots right up. Clear your cache before cloning to speed things up.

Re: Aurender drop out problem
Dear Fm540i, Awaiting your response on detailed procedures above. Further, when I checked on the Samsung 950 Pro, it states it is a M2 NVMe format, just want to make sure you are using standard SATA III SDD, and not M2? Appreciate your advice and help. Looking fwd to your response

Re: Aurender drop out problem
I’ve been looking for the new format feature in the Aurender software but it looks like it was never added. The strange thing about the dropouts is the location is random. If I scan back and try and replay the dropout it is either not at the time location of pops up somewhere else. This tells be it’s not data corruption because if it was it would be replicated every time you replay the time location.
Many of us with older N10s experiencing this.

Re: Aurender drop out problem
I have replaced the 5 years storage hdd despite Aurender checked and indicated the storage hdds are working correctly. Strangely, the dropouts has gone and I am able to listen to uninterrupted music.

Re: Aurender drop out problem
My N100H has been doing the exact same thing for about a month now ... they have asked for the exact date and time next time it happens so they can try and isolate it but took several weeks for them to respond to my request for help. Interestingly enough on my issue the dropout happens at almost exactly 45 seconds into the first track of an album on just random different albums. If I play that same album again later it works fine. Happens about 1 out of every 4 or 5 albums I play and my N100H is 3 years old. They usually get things fixed it just sometimes takes a minute. I'm sure there will be an update coming soon that will fix it right up!

Re: Aurender drop out problem
I have an N100sc I purchased new in the middle of December. I am having drop out issues... Seems to only happen with 24/352 files. I have tried a clean system install... a couple of different dacs and cables... and even put media on an external thumb drive in a different USB input. I am still getting dropouts. There is definitely and issue with the unit or firmware. At this point I am waiting for a response from Aurender.I will let you know what they say.
Just curious if you all are getting dropouts with media other than 24/352?
I have no issue with Qobuz files but those are only 24/192.

Re: Aurender drop out problem
Hello. I am getting dropouts on my N100H almost exclusively on 24/96 material played from the hard disc. Occours about 45-60 seconds into the first song on an album and last for a few seconds. I have had the problem since May 2020 and have contacted Aurender support about 10 times. By now they just ignore my requests for help.
