So Far
well i have to tell you, its kind of intimidating posting my room in this area. with all the wonderful systems that are here i dont have much to offer. but since im breaking down everything and everything here is about to change, i figured id get a little history going .so i can look back and see where i started.
also im hoping with the 3 angles of room pics i can get some help with acoustics. i need help with acoustics!!!!
the rooster room: it measures 14' wide x 20' long. im measuring from the wall behind my listening couch. to the wall behind my equipment.
this room is my livingroom so i have one couch to watch tv, and another to listen to music, as you can see. i removed the enormous coffee table today and used the base only. i have about 3ft behind the listening couch, to the wall and the same from the speakers to the rear wall. the pic pointed at my tv wall is taken from behind the couch in my kitchen. and you can see the small hallway to the other 3 rooms that i never use and all are too small for a listening room.
not that it matters but my bedroom is off the kitchen.
the equipment:is in my sig, the stand is homemade and i hate it. but its about 200 lbs and rock solid, curing my footfall issue. i have another to replace it once i get some amp stands and a longer interconnect. its a single wide with 3 shelves, also homemade.
the plan ok rack will be replaced, the classic 1 is out and a classic 3 is replacing it, also with the sds. the hovland pre will eventually turn into a steelhead,or i may keep both since the hovland is awesome!! the snappers are staying. the speakers which are also on homemade stands(100lbs each)are going to go also but i have no idea whats going to replace them yet.might be monitors might be floorstanders. then of course, power cables, conditioner, new interconnects and speaker cables.LMAO!!!! i got alot of work yet to do.
so here you go, dont laugh at my rooster i love him!!!Steve

guys your being too nice, the room is rough and needs help.lol. but thank you!!!! did you notice my tiny guitar amp?? the pics suck but all i have is my iphone, theres a little vox amp under the guitar on the wall. it runs on 1 12ax7, and can either go 4 watts, 1 watt, or .1 watt. its so cute and sounds really sweet. just figured id point that out. im gonna put the extra telefunkin in there and see if it gets sweeter sounding. bet it will

Re: So Far
Thanks everyone. It's hard to change too much because this is the main room in my house.
It's an old house, I rent it but I love it, best part it's far enough away from most people I know so they don't stop by. Lol . I like it that way. I've been back in nj for over 2 years now and most of the people I know don't even know I'm around. Hehehe.
Anyway Doug you are 100% right on the snappers needing to breath ,
It's hot over there. New rack will cure that.
This is an old lagoon house probably not built to live in year round . Therefor the power is not so great but I do have some extra slots in the box to run a couple dedicated lines.
I'm glad I started this thread now going foward I have a place to put everything.
Get some opinions as well . Thanx !!!!!!!!Steve

Re: So Far
yes i do in both ways. sound bounce and bounce when i walk around the table. sound bounce has got better since i added the big fluffy couches, and the $17.99 indoor/outdoor carpet from home depot, lmao!!!! i got gray instead of astroturf green. hahaha!!! still not great but way better than it was.
and floor is bouncy because this old house has issues, but the rack has gotta weigh in at 200 at least, and i put it on rubber pads, and now i have no bounce that will skip a record, even if i try. and making those speaker stands out of the heaviest oak i could find and making them big enough to hold near 2-50lb bags of sand each really helped also and now they are sturdy enough for all the bass them little kefs pump out, and its alot.
thanksSteve

Re: So Far
thanks trung!!!
thanks , 2000 posts !!!! congrats
thanks , there is a diy thread on how i built it. the notched leggs were the hardest part and they are not right. if i was going to keep it id get more 2x4 oak and recut them with a table saw with a dado blade. using the jigsaw was not a good idea. i also cracked a couple and had to cut new. that red oak is super hard, it dont want to be cut. and im not sure maple would hold up that much weight. if i had a real workshop i might have got into the audio furniture bizz by now. its a lot of fun building them. and thanks again.Steve
