It has been a while so I thought an update might be in order. Besides the new analog setup, the Hattor passive, there has been an emphasis on headphone listening. Trying to be considerate of my beautiful bride while we are staying home most of the time trying to be safe...

Hey Chris,Hmmm, that Dyson is a few years old. We have three Dyson fans, five Dyson vacuums, and my wife has their hair dryer. We love Dyson products! Only one time had an issue when a motor burnt up on an animal vacuum. They sent me a new one right away and did not even worry about sales slip saying that the model was less than five years old so obviously it was under warranty.

I have mainly AudioQuest cables, XLR Amazon, Anaconda and Niagara, Coffee USB x2. Some basic AudioQuest for the tuner .... power cables are a bit of a mix bag, Pangea x2, W4S, Richard Gray, etc. Kimber Kable speaker cables.

Dyson did send us a new fan, and told us to trash the one that died. Not bad customer service.

So far so good. Still trying to hone everything in but I think it is pretty close now.

Last night I flipped the left and right to put the tweeters on the outside. I think it really improved the soundstage considerably in my room.

Maggies... Nice! So how do you like them? Pros and cons vs the KEF's? I'm really loving these old Martin Logan's of mine. They really match up extremely well with the gear and room... Finally!

Re: New photos of Randy's system ...

    Hey Charles,

Still breaking in and still getting used to them, however so far I am liking them! The KEF's definitely have more bottom end and a bit more efficient. The Maggie's definitely eliminate any box constraints. Really amazing sound stage which is something I really like. I would say a very similar sound signature to my Planar Magnet headphones (Abyss), no sense of where the sound is actually emanating from. Makes me feel like I am part of the music not listening to speakers playing the music. Not a ton of base but the sub fills in a little. I am not a bass hound so that does not matter much to me. I think the larger models would have more bottom end but I also believe I made the right decision with the .7's. Cheryal has mentioned that the speakers are larger then she thought they would be, so I think that the 1.7's would have been too much for her. Down the road though .

They are imposing with their height and can take over a room and be very wifey unfriendly.

Just curious why you have the entire system skewed off to the right instead of centered. Also, did you ever try the subs on the outside of the Maggies?

Re: New photos of Randy's system ...

I did try the subs in different places and I like them the most inside.

My room is a bit strange. The side wall, back wall in this case has a nice built in book case which I cannot sit in front of. My chair is next to it and back in a bit. Therefore the system is moved to that side to put the chair in the middle. I actual have it honed in so it works good this way.

Nice Randy. So you kept the Mcintosh amp. Got rid of the T+A. Mcintosh is unique equipment. It has color. But it appears to be a very pleasing color that many gravitate too. JD rip was a huge Mcintosh fan. I wonder what happened with his system. I read that article the other day about is your system too good. You seem to have built a blend that would be very musical and easy to sit back and enjoy. While also digging deep and showing you what your listening too. Nicely done.

Thank you Rex. Yea the classic McIntosh is a very nice amp that I have been enjoying lately. At some point I may want to get a new Mc. Being a Binghamton boy of course I do have Mc on the brain. The T+A was a really nice amp but I decided I simply could not keep three amps and I was able to help a fellow sharky with a price on it!

Yea Dan was a huge Mc fan. I was wondering the other day about the same thing .

Thank you for the kind words. I am very happy with the sound of the system at this point.

I wanted the second table for more of an every day use table. The Rega is nice but it does involve a bit more care then the direct drive Technics. I use it more for serious listening sessions or higher grade albums. I also want a table that would allow for quick cartridge switches and I keep the Ortofon 2M Red mounted to switch for first play on questionable used albums, etc. I do like the auto lift also because I have fell a sleep on a couple occasions and the table keep playing .

I like direct drive too. I am the most satisfied with vinyl now than I have ever been since I upgraded my table. What do you mean more care. Both of your tables are pretty much, clean the needle and drop it in the groove? I built a little stand that holds my goo dot at the perfect height. I also a magic sponge at the perfect height. About every 10 records I use the magic sponge. Every album side I drop into the goo, then onto the vinyl.

More or less little things like I don't like cleaning the record with a belt drive.... So I always clean records on the Technics. I always give the belts a little push to get it up to 45 with less effort. The Technics motor is a thing of beauty. It gets up to speed in about half a rotation, even 45 speed. And stops just as fast! Over all the Rega is a better table, SQ, over all feel, but the Technics is a really nice every day player!

This post is really helpful for me personally. As I get older I do find myself falling asleep at times while listening. So, an auto lift feature may limit the type table I plan on purchasing. Thanks - as I hadn't considered this before ... and now I will.

PS: Your system is absolutely beautiful. Congrats on a job well done.

Me to. My solution to that problem is to turn up the volume. But there comes a point when sensibility must prevail and I turn it all off.

Thanks you Calvin. There are aftermarket "lifters" available that can be added to tables. With the Rega skeletal design it is more difficult. Also I did not want to have to reset that each time. Plus the secondary table saves wear on the Rega MC cartridge for everyday use to reserve it for my more serious listening sessions.

He definitely does it the right way. Nicely built wonderful sounding gear. He also offers quality built nCore mono amplifiers. He told me that he feels they are a perfect match to the pre-amps. At some point I may have to give them a try .

I have tried in front, etc. I seem to really like them in this location. They do what they need to do, give really nice musical low end and keep themselves out of the way. Rythmik are simply a perfect match for Magnepan's!

Do you have a reference on cans? What about the preamp. I have a Shiit Valhalla now. It does double duty as headphone and 15ips tape preamp

Re: New photos of Randy's system ...

The headphones are Audeze LCD-3's and Abyss Diana Phi's (by far the finest headphone I have owned, and I've had many). The pre-amp is Hattor's full three box top configuration. The Woo handle's headphone listening, being feed from the pre-amp, and the Astell&Kern is great for portable use... (trips, work, etc.).
