Congratulations on the new amp Randy! T+A make some great gear.

On the HQPlayer volume settings, you can keep Vol min at -6dB as you have right now. Keep Vol max to 0dB. In software upsampling you can have a few samples overshoot so back off on the volume dial by -3dB to give you some headroom. This is recommended by Jussi the developer. The software volume control is like a "fine control" and should never be set to max for this reason.

It should also never be used as the main volume control (just in case someone is thinking of it).

    Randy

    Congrats with the new amp.

How much of an improvement did it make and in what areas?

    Take care !

    Hey Michael,

Long time my friend. Yea, it has changed a bit ... really liking what it has evolved to.

on the music server I am running Roon & HQPlayer. The tablet is a Surface running Windows 10. It runs Roon Controller software to control the music server, and remote desktop to do any kind of maintenance or configuring on the server.

Re: New photos of Randy's system ...

Yes indeed it has. I think it is just about there though (or best I can afford to get ). I am now in the process of doing some more fine tuning. I had a nice discussion with Jim Smith and I am now reading his book on the subject. I did flip the room, and then had to flip it again t make my wife happy (massive amount of work). Being configured with the front side loft backing the system does sound better though.

Thank you guys. I love the Dennis Had amp... and it is only a few months old; got a pretty amazing deal. The guy that sold it to me just got a Dave .

Currently I am listening to the 754 by itself. Sounds very good. Been thinking about trying to bi-amp it with the T+A doing HF duties and the Mc on the LF.

How do you like that Freya?

I was seriously considering it until I found out that the tube section couldn't be turned off when using the FET or passive modes.

Re: New photos of Randy's system ...

So far I really like the Freya. I cannot believe how good it is, even more so when you consider the price. Great flexibility, uses my favorite tubes, metal remote, etc. It sounds very good...

Passive and FET mode are both good, but tubes mode is my favorite so far. It does have a lot more breaking in to do, but so far all positive to say about it.

Re: New photos of Randy's system ...

I was very seriously considering the Freya myself. I was hoping the tube section could have been powered down when using either passive or FET mode so I wouldn't have any issues leaving it on 24/7, when I'm away or at work, then coming home and activating the tube section when selecting tube mode.

I hear the Freya is a very good sounding unit. It's funny how some prefer passive mode, some prefer FET mode, and others prefer tube mode. It just goes to show that it all boils down to system synergy and personal taste.

    Keep enjoying your Schiit!

Thanks Charles... So far liking it a lot. Got a new set of Black Treasure CV-181Z tubes for tïhe amps today,... rotated the CBS Brown Base and Sylvania Bad Boys to the Freya... very nice improvement, almost like another veil was stripped away!

Re: New photos of Randy's system ...

I just read another review by a non-reviewer. His .dealer loaned him a couple pair of top end tubes and wanted him to compare against his favorite NOS tubes. These are his opinions, the Sylvania Big Boys were his favorites going into this. By 50 hours the Black Treasures surpassed everything except his Sylvania's. At 100 hours the CV-181z had walked right by his NOS and continued to improved until over 200 hours. I guess the company suggests 300 hours... dam that is long for tubes . They sound great now at maybe 10 hours... this is gonna be fun!

Re: New photos of Randy's system ...

Doing some tube rolling... lots of fun...

    System shot:

The Audio Mirrors each have a pair of the 6C33C tubes, a NOS Phillips 6SL7, and the Black Treasure CV-181Z!

The Freya has some nice digs, it is sporting a set of early 1950's Sylvania Chrome Domes and a set of 1956 CBS 5692 Brown Bases!

The Dennis Had headphone amplifier also is loving its new configuration with a special NOS Phillips Rectifier and a set of RCA Gray Glass:

Rolling can be fun, but I definitely see where it can take you right down the rabbit hole

Very much so... for example the RCA Gray Glass definitely were not a good match, noise, thin.... just not a good match. They are a very good match in the Dennis Had however.

The CBS were my favorite in the SET amps before getting the Black Treasures on Vlad's recommendation. The Sylvania were a touch bright, but nice. However using the Chrome Dome in the Voltage Gain stage works well since they are very quite, and in the Output stage the CBS can really shine!

Yeah, tube rolling IS fun, but a rabbit hole. However, when you have friends to roll with, its an instant party!

Your rack is wider and your speakers taller vs Page 1 photos. LoL

Yes, not running a sub any more. I actually sold the KEF. I think the sub might have actually hurt the sound with the SET amps, and in my room sub are not easy to integrate. My KEFs floor standing speakers give me all the low end that I need and got to a point where the sub was more of a PITA then anything else.

Re: New photos of Randy's system ...

Some new photos with the current setup. I am calling this my Giant Killer Combo .... All of the major components have earned a reputation that some may refer to as Giant Killers.

The Wyred 4 Sound Pre-amp has been review as world class and directly compared to pre-amps that sell for over 6 times its price

The T+A DAC is marvelous and to get anything I might consider more it I would have to spend 4 times its price. That is Giant Killer in my book.

The Audio Mirror amps are amazing, with decent power for a SET amp. The Absolute Sound gave them a fantastic review and stated at twice their price he would give them his absolute highest rating!

I have always been a KEF fan. I love the Reference 3 or the Blade II's, but neither are in my affordable range. The next best thing is the R series, which KEF refers to as their Mini Reference series. Same size and very similar in design to the Reference series however they are built in KEFs Chinese factory versus the facility in England. Therefore they are about a quarter the price. At this price I could not image a speaker that would be better for me!

The Audio Quest Niagara 1000 has won several major awards and in my mind the best power conditioner available for about a quarter of anything else I would want...

So here are some new photos now that the system is finally reaching the level that I have been shooting for :

I've had nothing but trouble on uploads, its weird, for some it works great for others its just "hit and miss".
