Re: Evolution acoustics + esoteric
FRO...I see a Boulder piece in your rack above the SR Tesla powercell and below the Oppo but no listing of it in your system description. Is it the 1012 DAC/Preamp? Is it still in system as a pre only with the Esoteric taking over DAC duties or has it been replaced altogether with the D2? Thx

Re: Evolution acoustics + esoteric
Thanks, guys!
I have replaced the Boulder 1012 DA/Preamp with the Esoteric D-02, since I sell Esoteric gear now.
The D-02 is being used as my DA/Preamp and is hooked up directly to the Pass amps.
Those Evolution Acoustic speakers are about 70" tall and weigh approx. 600 lbs each!
They are constructed of 1000 layers of Baltic Birch veneers, and house a 1000watt sub amp in each speaker.
The EA Micros are set up in a nearfield position on stands in my office.
Quite frankly, they have the best imaging and soundstage of ANY speaker I have heard.
They are simply incredible!!

Re: Evolution acoustics + esoteric
I think they run between $2500-$3000 with the stands.
I lucked out and found a like new pair for $2000.
Think I listen to them more than the main system!

Congrats! What a beautiful system. Ayre monos! Wow!!! You must be rocking. Do you prefer the Ayre over the Pass? How do they differ?

Re: Evolution acoustics + esoteric
I did the MXR and Mac-mini additions at the same time, so kind of hard to tell what made the biggest improvement.
All I know is I am getting a lot better imaging and soundstage.
I liked the XA160.5 amps too, but they ran hot and did not image as well as the MXR amps.
Thanks!

Re: Evolution acoustics + esoteric
FRO...interesting about the Ayre MX-R vs. Pass XA-160.5 comparison. Have you ever tried high-powered tubes on the MM3s?

Re: Evolution acoustics + esoteric
No doubt I would think that high-power tubes would sound exceptional with these efficient speakers.
Remember that they would only be driving the mids and tweeters, since they have internal 1000watt sub amps.
Don't really want to mess with the tube route since I use this system for A/V also.
Thanks!
