AudioQuest Niagra 1000 - What the hell are you waiting for?

So the AQ Niagara 1000 has arrived. Hopefully I can get it in place this evening. Been looking forward to it!

Very short first listening session.... busy day at work, so I was beat and fell a sleep. (of course Cheryal had some fun with that :) )....

From a short listen though, very open, very very quite background. I noticed some more subtle details.... seems like the bass is a bit more subdued at this point, but I know there is definitely some breaking in to happen. AQ actually mentions that it will sound good out of the box but will continue to improve as it breaks in.

Thanks Randy...Keep us posted with progress. I might be interested as well. the
Niagara 5000 is a bit out of my reach at this point as well.

BTW did the 1000 replace anything or is this a new addition?

I replaced a Furman power conditioner. I think the AQ is definitely a step up and I have been told that it out performs units that cost a lot more.

I may move the Furman to a friend; if not will probably move it to the bedroom where I have a Sony TV, cable box, Yamaha Blu-ray, and my NAS (convenient Ethernet port was there with direct access to the network that I had pre-wired in our house when it was built).

Glad to hear it complements your system, Randy. Looking forward to hearing more from you as the unit breaks in.

Thanks Randy! The
Niagara 1000 sure sounds like a winner!

Talk to Mike; he told me that he has compared it to other high level power units. Of course, always go to Mike first... I have not regretted anything that I purchased from him!

Thanks Randy and agreed!!!

My only concern is how do the Audioquest
Niagara power conditioners compare with PS Audio's current power conditioners. I'd be upgrading from a PS Audio Power Plant Premier. (PPP)

Ok call me skeptical but $1k for a glorified power strip? How can this be better than a well engineered transformer coupled power conditioner?

Niagra 1000 Specs:

6 AC outlets: 1 High-Current Ground-Noise Dissipated; 5 Ultra-Linear Filtered/Ground Noise Dissipated

Direction-Controlled Ultra-Low-Resistance Solid-Core Wiring

Ultra-Linear AudioQuest AC RF Filtering Capacitors

* Patented Ground Noise-Dissipation System: 3 banks of direction-controlled ground noise dissipation

Ultra-Linear Noise-Dissipation Technology: More than 18 octaves of AC differential filtering with linear response, optimized for varying line and load impedance

Non-Sacrificial Surge Protection: Withstands multiple AC surges and spikes up to 6000V/3000A

Zero Ground-Contamination Technology: Prevents the noise or surge energy present on AC Line or Neutral from connecting to the AC Ground

Over-Voltage Shutdown with Automatic Reset

Low-Z (low impedance) NRG Series AC Power Inlets and Outlets.

Sounds better than the power strip you buy at Home Depot. I had the Niagra 1000 and thought it was great at eliminating noise which is very detectable on the Avantgarde’s.

An interesting white paper: https://www.audioquest.com/content/aq/pdf/Power-Demystified-whitepaper-6-1-18.zip

I definitely cannot hold any judgement as I have not heard its merits in my system but I am skeptical. So many ways to skin a cat in this industry.

Very true. I compared it to my APC S20 (one big honking beast!) and thought the 1000 sounded quieter, more dynamic, etc. through the horns.

Mike have you ever tried a transformer coupled conditioner like the Torus products or similar designs?
