Ref Phono 2SE break in question?

The Phono 2SE, along with all the ARC gear, needs 600 hours to be fully broken in. But am I going to wear out a cartridge getting there, or is it all just varying shades of awesome?

How many hours does a good cartridge like my LPS have in it before retipping or retiring?

    Good question Bob.

Does it make sense to wear on your gem of a cart during "other" equipment break in? On one hand it makes sense to retain as accurate and pleasant a sound as possible throughout the process (of break in of the amp) but it also makes sense to not wear on something you hold dear that has a limited life (the cart) while knowing the amp isn't at it's best yet.

I suppose if it were me and my own dear-cart (Cadenza Bronze and now a Cadenza Mono coming as soon as I can procure another arm wand) I'd opt for a good but lesser expensive cart to run for at least a couple hundred hours of break in of the amp. At the point I felt the amp was coming along, then introduce the special cart to hear what it then brings to the party.

Regardless, congrats on the new gear and above all else, ENJOY all of it!!!

Or is there a way to feed a tiny signal to the phono amp and hasten the process. There are cable burn-in rigs, anyone have a phono-amp burn-in rig?

Yes. There are inverse/reverse RIAA burn in discs Granite Audio or I think KAB or Hagerman sell reverse RIAA units where you feed the output of your CD player into the phono stage. All that need to be on is the phono section though it has to be connected to the line stage eg. Have a load. Personally I use the now discontinued Thor Audio reverse RIAA phono burn-unit.

Model CD-101.1 Phono Burn-In & RIAA Test CD, for testing and burning in phono preamps, testing the RIAA equaliaztion circuits of phono preamps.

The REFPH2se sounds very good out of the box. No need to accelerate the burn in process, I'm pretty sure it will stay very long time in your system .

Really? . Once I rolled the tubes in mine, it went to a whole new level. It's going no where.
