Re: Timbernation Rules
Mike
The tallest tube in both the DAC and the preamp are 7" so I've got an inch clearance and more would be better but haven't had an issue yet. It does limit which aftermarket footers can be used though. I would get at least two with 10" spacing.Main - JVC QL-Y7/Denon DL-301 Mk II, Gold Note PH-10, Jays CDT3 Mk3 , Auralic Aries G1, Holo May KTE, Supratek Cabernet, Kinki Studio EX-B7 monoblocks, Verity Audio Otello, (2) Rythmik F12SE, Audio Envy IC, SC & PC's, Triode Wire Lab PC's, Inakustik USB and I2S, PS Audio Stellar P3, PI Audio Uberbuss, Timbernation rack

Re: Timbernation Rules
Thank you Jack. I'm still on the fence about the 8 inch versus 10 inch top space.

Re: Timbernation Rules
I found a local builder who made me two racks from California walnut (Claro). They are gorgeous. Glued and screwed with flat plugs.
To protect the wood from tube amp heat I made heat shields using Aramid insulation sandwiched between the shelf bottom and aluminum flashing. The Aramid material is rated to 600 degrees. The shield is under the second shelf from the bottom and is invisible from any normal position.
This does not solve the ventilation problem for the equipment. It only protects the wood and whatever finish is on it. Of course after doing that for both racks I went to solid state in one system and moved the tube amp to a stand between the speakers in the other system.
