core audio designs plyKraft 3L component rack ... in the house
tl/dr: core audio designs plyKraft 3L audio rack …this rack is a highly functional piece of art !!
__________________________________________________ ____________________________
this is a drop-dead-gorgeous audio rack which belongs on display in the Smithsonian American Art Museum right next to the work of sam maloof and george nakashima.
while expecting an uptick, the increase in SQ for my system is significant. the 135 lbs of mass and the 5-piece 304 stainless steel spikes + coasters provide effective isolation from a suspended wood floor. for my system, there is now certainly more detail and the soundstage is wider. however, i was just blown away by richness and texture of the sound — off the charts improvement here.
the design and craftsmanship are second to none. this is a quality audio rack in every respect. all this is much better explained and demonstrated than i could ever do at this link.
it is not possible to say enough good things about the owner of core audio designs. suffice it to say he is extremely knowledgeable and an absolute pleasure to work with — just the nicest guy one would ever hope to meet. by far the best audio (or anything else) purchasing experience i have ever had. i am more than a little sad that this project is finished.

two small customizations that are incorporated into the rack…
the first is that i asked if cherry wood with a little more pattern than is usually seen could be selected. well… a unique and absolutely stunning piece of cherry to use for the legs was found and offered it up. the lumber for the shelves also has a nicely figured veneer.
the second was that i asked to cap one edge of each shelf with a solid strip of cherry. this gives one side of the rack a more traditional look and since the listening room is the main living room of the house, it helped overcome some WAF constraints i was bumping up against. this was brilliantly executed and is henceforth known as the “WAF option”.
[a note here on the shelves: normally all four sides are exposed apple-Ply which is beautifully finished. personally, i find them quite attractive and they give the rack added visual interest and a touch of mid-century gestalt]

i am just thrilled how this project turned out. the SQ and aesthetics in my listening room are greatly enhanced.

thanks all -- although starting from a fairly light weight piece of furniture, i am still quite amazed at the SQ impact the addition of this rack provides. and, i am just loving the build quality and the aesthetics...

Re: core audio designs plyKraft 3L component rack ... in the house
That's a great looking setup in many ways. The rack is a work of art , I like that the shelves are layered. I am a big fan of minimalist setups , they seem to get the midrange right many more times than not.

Adding more stuff and more wire might muck it up. Simple is better.....

Re: core audio designs plyKraft 3L component rack ... in the house
sounds about right... actually, 100% right.
i have worked diligently to have the absolute minimum box count and connections. dongles of any kind are forbidden -- and, the need for any would indicate some type issue elsewhere which is better addressed directly than with a band-aid -- as always, ymmv.
however, the siren's song of analog is tempting me toward the rocks. probably best to lash myself to the mast.viking acoustics berlin r mk2 | almarro a318b + air tight atc-5 (phono) | clearaudio concept + virtuoso v2 MM | t+a dac8 dsd + diy transport + roon rock
