I’ve been perusing some of the threads here, seems to be a fine place so far so for a second post I thought that I would share my current garage table with you guys.

It started out life as a tired old TD 150, which BTW is my favorite Thorens table; I went through a full restoration and got it all back up to spec.

After some time with it I thought perhaps I could improve upon it a little, so I made a new top plate, plinth, widened the tone arm board and added a Pro-Ject tone arm to it.

Now it spins away merrily while I build other peoples tables!

Gorgeous as usual Mel...crap..thats your GARAGE table ? LOL

I should give you dimensions on my DIY table to make me a base that I can just slip the plinth top on...maybe suspended..lol

That Thorens made me drool...

Hey, side note...have my eye on an Ariston 80...I know you want me to go Thorens ...but what is the rep on the 80 ? Thanks

Nothing wrong with the Ariston, it's just a Linn in disguise; they are a fine table and a great base to start a killer table.

You just let me know when you are ready for a plinth and we will get together.

I am excited !!! Might do the Ariston and the DIY Plinth with you...LOL...oh this lovely sickness...

Hey Joe..reading your equipment in the signature..am I wrong or are you missing a piece ? LOL Where's the vinyl machine ? If you only knew the power of the dark side...C8<]

You are correct, but that will change in the next couple of months. I sworn off vinyl when cds started. I believed that perfect sound forever hype. I've never had the best track record for handling albums and record players, but I am willing to give is a go. I've heard some outstanding setups and know what a revelation it can be. My Dartzeel preamp has a MC input so that's a good start. I realize now I am the middle of greatness with all you TT heads and will assimilate like a good boy. Actually, I am starting to look forward to it. Mike sent me my first new record in in the past 30 years, Norah Jones. Good times ahead.

Once you go to the dark side it's hard to come back.

Very cool...what I have discovered in my journey is two things..

1) Obviously the quality of the equipment (and MC is the way to go)
2) Quality vinyl condition and cleanliness

On number two, I have often owned multiple copies of albums till I had a pristine one and "goodwilled" the rest. The other part of that was building my own vacuum based record cleaning machine. Before I play anything, I use the machine and they stay clean for at least 5 or 6 playing..

I dont advocate to everyone to BUILD one (it can be a bear to do right) but i do advocate owning one...it is really the only way to be sure they are clean and pretty noise free.

Once there, vinyl has a clarity and depth not found in digital music...though new digital technology has become so close as to be nearly indistinquishable..but vinyl is more than that. It is sort of like an additional aspect. You can buy premium coffee pre-ground..but maybe you LIKE grinding the beans just before. It may not taste better but for some, thats the way to go...

dang this site makes me chatty...LOL
