    Velleman Power Amp....

Wow..this site is new...I think I got to be first poster in multiple forums...few years from now I can say -"I remember the early days"

Anyway, ON TOPIC..You guys might like this 90wpc Tube Power Amp....Velleman K4040 - These were originally pricey kits. I bought mine for 1/4 of the original price, had a hum and ring..which after 3 weeks of in-depth work is gone...The tubes are classics - Brand new old stock from 1963 and 1959....And for the faint of heart, don;t get into tube amps and espcially old stock tubes unless you don;t mind that searing pain in your wallet...LOL

Weighs about 40 pounds with 3 huge torriodial transformers

You guessed it ...GE 6L6GC's..Matched Octet of NOS tubes...from 1963

The input tubes ..it uses 1 12AU7 as a phase splitter (I have a GE Military grade JG 6189 WA) and 2 12AX7 tubes - I have several pairs, Mullards, GE Black Plates, RCA black plates but I have found besides the Mullards as my favorites, I managed to get a pair of NOS Sylvania Gold print triple mica black plates...RARE...I was trying to find a pair that gave me the detail of the RCA's and GE's with the smooth forward mids of the Mullards. These are it...lol

Glad you guys like the tube stuff...I wouldn't wish the Velleman on anyone faint of heart. It is BEAUTIFUL in sound, powerful...and was a bear to work on...I had to search the net for mods to address some inherant design flaws on the board (changed some resistors, grounds, etc) and had to enlist an expert with an osciliscope. BUT when I was done...Hum free, sweet, none of the issues these things can be known for.

Sorry..didnt mean to talk so much but the Velleman tale was quite an odyessy ..labor of love ? Even the cover screws were stripped and had to be drilled out...
