    Re: Nad m33

No comments yet on that webinar presentation! I watched it but most of it was far too technical, at least for me. However, I still want the M33 in my system as soon as it becomes available.

I asked whether the suppied microphone was calibrated but the answer was simply that it was "accurate". In my view, if room correction is to be based on measurements taken by a microphone, that mic MUST be factory calibrated with its indivudual calibration table either downloadable from the manufacture's website or pre-loaded into the amp. An "accurate" mic is likely to be no more accurate than the speakers being measured, specially if the speakers themselves are sold as "accurate". What's the point of matching your speakers / room acoustics to a micrphone's curve that has lumps and bumps? The mic supplied with Martin Logan's PBK kit is at least properly calibrated once its curve is downloaded into the ML / Anthem software.

    Re: Nad m33

I was there for the webinar and thought it was a good blend of functional and technical information. It was well worth the 1h 15m to learn about all the new technology packed into the M33. For the benefit of those who didn’t want to listen to Bruno’s technical presentation, they could have positioned that at the end of the webinar to allow disinterested parties to bail out early rather than scheduling it in the middle.

Regarding the microphone, it was stated that a customer could utilize their own microphone and upload it’s calibration file. Perhaps not an ideal solution, but for $5K US you have to expect some compromises.

    Re: Nad m33

I’m excited about the new tech in the M33. My recent acquisition of a Lumin M1 for a second system has gotten me past my negative preconceptions toward Class D amplifiers. Kal R is set to publish his review in Stereophile pretty soon and I’m looking forward to reading about his experience.

The lack of Roon certification may hinder sales of the M33.

    Re: Nad m33

It probably will. I'm surprised it doesn't have Chromecast though ... even their C338 at $700 has it. Chromecast offers nice workaround for those that want to use Roon with equipment that is not Roon Certified.

I'm not sure what benefit "Roon Certification" has over being a "Roon Endpoint". As long as it works with Roon, that's surely all that matters.

I wrote to NAD about this and received this reply:

NAD Electronics is very aware of the situation and have spoken with ROON about their certification process regarding NAD BluOS Enabled products with a detailed front panel display.

NAD is confident the NAD M10 and C658 will be certified before then and no foreseeable hurdles with the NAD M33 or newer products entering the certification process and will continue a great relationship with ROON Labs. Due to the nature of the certification we cannot provide an ETA at this point, but rest assured this is being worked on.

In regards to your second question, the M33 runs BluOS as its main firmware so adding an MDC BluOS module to the M33 is not possible.

We add MDC BluOS to older players to enable BluOS for these devices.

Also please note that at this point no NAD or Bluesound devices are Roon certified. They are Roon endpoints. The certification is in progress

Latest review of M33 by Stereophile here:

NAD Masters Series M33 streaming integrated amplifier | Stereophile.com

Looks encouraging though sadly no comparison with its predecessor, the M32. I'm sure many M32 owners, including myself, would like to know whether our upgrade is worth the cost in terms of improved sound quality.

Substituting different power amps with the last section of the NAD (Purifi amp) is none too helpful, particularly as one of the alternative amps used is the drearily dull AHB2! The earlier M32 sounded far more rewarding than the Benchmark in my own system. It would have been nice to see a comparison of all its features by substituting other all-in-ones of similar and higher prices. Nevertheless I'm not put off my immanent M33 purchase.
