Major impact expected: AudioNet Heisenbergs approaching

I’m a restless audiophile, I know. Therefore, I change systems for no good reason. While perfectly happy with my system, I jumped on an opportunity to add some really prestigious amps to my setup: AudioNet scientist series power amps, the top-of-the-line Heisenberg mono blocks.

My room is not very large, so I don’t need more power. But for better channel separation monos are the way to go. Another reason to go for the Heisenbergs is I like the sound signature of the scientist line, and these are the amps with the finest resolution, detail, mids, highs, bass, dynamics, imaging and soundstaging I’ve ever heard.

Industrial design by Hartmut Esslinger of Frog Design (e.g. computer mouse) and Apple fame, they are industrial design works of art. More on that later. But please find below some teasers.

So stay tuned, really looking forward to hear how they work with the Lansches.

They are pretty cool looking. I think most of us change gear for no good reason. Sometimes good outcome, sometimes bad.

Good luck with your new equipment. Looking forward to your thoughts.

Mike, it’s more about the sound than the looks Major impact expected: AudioNet Heisenbergs approaching.

That said, guess you don’t get every day an amp designed by an industrial design icon. It’s actually quite an elaborate industrial design with the floating panels.

Thanks Flemming, I’m actually quite excited. I have heard them in other places, but not in my own system yet.

But as I see myself drifting more and more towards a neutral sound, incl. finesse and detail, these should be just the right choice for me.

Re: Major impact expected: AudioNet Heisenbergs approaching

I am sure you know this, as opposed to Pauli's Exclusion principle. LoL

In quantum mechanics, the uncertainty principle (also known as Heisenberg's uncertainty principle) is any of a variety of mathematical inequalities[1] asserting a fundamental limit to the precision with which the values for certain pairs of physical quantities of a particle, such as position, x, and momentum, p, can be predicted from initial conditions. Such variable pairs are known as complementary variables or canonically conjugate variables, and, depending on interpretation, the uncertainty principle limits to what extent such conjugate properties maintain their approximate meaning, as the mathematical framework of quantum physics does not support the notion of simultaneously well-defined conjugate properties expressed by a single value. The uncertainty principle implies that it is in general not possible to predict the value of a quantity with arbitrary certainty, even if all initial conditions are specified.

Introduced first in 1927 by the German physicist Werner Heisenberg, the uncertainty principle states that the more precisely the position of some particle is determined, the less precisely its momentum can be predicted from initial conditions, and vice versa.[2] The formal inequality relating the standard deviation of position σx and the standard deviation of momentum σp was derived by Earle Hesse Kennard[3] later that year and by Hermann Weyl[4] in 1928:

    “We can never know anything.”
    ― Werner Heisenberg

The amp should be a winner. I look fwd to reports.

Sean, I’m interested to hear the pairing myself. Let’s see.

But of course that’s just the first step. For sure the Stern will follow, I’ve heard they have a very good system synergy.

Moving from Stereo to Mono is a commitment to space and expense, not only for the amp but the power cable and resting platform.

Large or small those monos will give you more separation as they are isolated and the increase of power will fill in the head room nicely.

Excited for you, listen in good spirits!

Major impact expected: AudioNet Heisenbergs approaching

Slight update on this move: After further reflection, I decided to abandon the plan. For multiple reasons.

So, I had a preliminary agreement to buy some Heisenbergs, and trading in my Soulution. So far so good, but there were a number of open questions.

First open question was, would I be able to also procure a Stern pre at acceptable conditions. It turns out, currently I’m not. In COVID times the market is slow, and trading-in existing gear has proven difficult.

Second open question was, if I can’t get a Stern right away, would the Soulution pre work well with the Heisenbergs. Probably, but it does not have variable gain adjustment to allow to match it with the much more powerful Heisenbergs. That’s a bit of a problem.

Third open question was, how would the Heisenbergs work with my speakers. Probably quite well sound-wise, but they are a total overkill for semi-active speakers with integrated 1200W sub-amps. 1000W per channel to power an 8” midrange and a massless tweeter with 93db sensitivity is a lots. So, to really take advantage of the Heisenberg’s power, I would need to eventually swop my speakers. I will do that eventually, but that’s a whole other story. And currently I’m not keen, as I have only have had the Lansches in my system for a little over a year. And I really do like the sound.

Fourth open question was, what’s the price tag for all the fun? My estimate is south of 100K Euro. While I could get a good (while still expensive) deal for the Heisenbergs, I would have to pay top dollar for the Stern. In addition, I would have to sell the current pre at a huge loss. What’s worse, I would have to sell my speakers in a slow market and get new high-end ones (probably with a good deal).

Fifth open question was, why am I doing this? Am I unhappy with my sound? I’m absolutely not, actually love it. It’s just that I like to play with new gear, sometimes too much so. Reviewing my upgrade history, I only put in place the current setup a little more than a year ago (new turntable added after that). So maybe I should slow down a bit. €100K+ just for playing around with new toys, and all the replacement hassle. Not sure.

Sixth open question was, is the audio joy worth it? Currently it’s not, not for me. For some reason, I’m currently tied up with so much other stuff, I hardly listen to music at all. Unlike others here, I’m not retired, and not even close to it. So audio is just one thing among others, such as family, sports, traveling, housing, academic endeavors, building businesses and so on.

Therefore, I abandoned the plan for now. No Heisenbergs in my future? Probably there are, but I’m not in a rush. I will do it when I feel passionate about it, not just to play around with gear. Will probably involve a new house, a bigger music room, and a more significant system overhaul.

Your logic is very sound. It is all too easy to change things just to try something new. Sometimes you like it sometimes the end results are not as expected. However, the bottom line is how important to you is it. Will you be able to dedicate enough time for the enjoyment to justify. It does not sound like you will at this time.

Also, you have a fantastic system as it is. It sounds like at this time you are making a very good choice!

Shame but probably sensible. IMHO these are state of the art, which is why I now own them (plus Stern). Comparing them to CH M1's was no contest.

But I just can't phantom how anyone can afford 100k+ audio gear. It just completely baffles me. Having over 100k of cash for "fun spending". I cant wrap my mind around that concept. Could be because my net income is not even half of that per year.

Get a little at a time, and it adds up. However, I realize that it would have been a lot less expensive in the long run to just buy the gear and cables right from the start instead of spending years upgrading everything. Of course, now that I am retired I’m not buying anything so the point is moot. All I can do now is listen to the stereo.

Apparently from all accounts the Humboldt is very close to the separates for a lot less money, and that would solve the preamp matching issue as well. It could be a less expensive way to evaluate this path and see if it's worth switching. Not trying to be an enabler of our collective sickness (okay maybe a bit), but just a thought.
