Fun amp. Great price/performance ratio. Not a universal can opener, though.

Sorry to be something of a tease, but I do have a review of the JOB 225 coming out, whenever this Newport coverage ends.

wow. I never knew the each Pre2 was hand assemled. considering its 1700.00, what a deal.

Part time audiophille, why not run it to a bright/neutral speaker? I am running it on MicroOnes and they sound fantastic. Also, running it with a warm dac like arcam irdac made the amp change its tone completely. What I CAN say about the Job 225 is that its super transparent and will play the sound of its next in line which in this case will be the Pre2 for me.

There is no right or wrong answer here. It's like you saying "I like Merlot" and me shouting "I'm not drinking any f***ing Merlot!". There's nothing wrong with Merlot. It's a matter of taste. The fact that I wouldn't recommend Merlot does not imply anything about your taste.

More on point -- I know a guy who uses silver wire with his YG speakers and Krell gear. He's very clearly after a very specific sound signature. Me, I prefer horns and tubes. I'm very clearly after a very specific sound signature, and one that happens to be rather different from the first. So, while I wouldn't recommend the JOB for a bright or neutral speaker, my buddy might consider that friggin' perfection. I'm still not drinking any f***ing Merlot.

As for the hard-to-drive thing, that's a little different. My guess is that the JOB's kinda small PSU (the box is, what, 15 pounds?) can only do so much.

    Scot,

Thank you and I agree. While I loved the Job on my TADs and everything else, I prefer it on warmer speakers like my SF Evolutions. It helps cut through the warmth on them. The Job plus horns is an amazing combo as well for some reason. I am beginning to appreciate balance in my musical enjoyment. Neither bright nor too laid back for me these days.

OT: @joeinid -- You ever get those big Harbeths? I really like the 30.1. Love to know what you think about the 40.1 after the 30.1's!

    Hi Scot,

I hope to see them in another 3 weeks or so. No dealer that I called had rosewood 40.1 in stock. The 30.1 are wonderful. I am so eager to hear the 40.1. I ran the Job on the 30.1 and it sounds great but I do confess the amp ran pretty hot on the heat sink. If it was a more permanent system, I'd add a small cooling fan.

While Harbeth are fairly easy to drive they are very inefficient sadly.

Next day and the Pre2 button is still 'place in cart'.

    Re: JOB 225 2-channel Power Amplifier ... update ...

Hello to all ... I'm new to the forum and to this thread.
I purchased the JOB 225 once I read S. Ebaen's review (being in Switzerland I was fortunate to have been able to 'convince' JOB in Geneva to prepare a 240V unit for me ... that was in May 2013). I slotted it in where the big Parasound monoblocks and matching preamp had been driving my system. Haven't look back since. I may in due course order the new Pre2, but for the moment I turn to all of you to inquire whether anyone drives Martin Logan speakers with the JOB. Although MLs are efficient their impedance curve can be bad news for an amplifier - typically, a ML can dip to 0.8 Ohms. The Job is specified as 8 Ohms. I am presently running Gallo Reference 3.5s.
Thanks in advance for any comment

    E.

    Welcome commeire,

Thank you for joining. I honestly think the ML speakers are too demanding for our little Job 225. I even think anything much below 3 ohms is probably not too good as well.
