    I am considering going Integrated...Luxman L-590ax-ii discontinued?

As I am rethinking my audio space and shelf, I'm almost at the point where I may sell/trade-in My First Watt J2 and PS Audio BHK pre and go integrated. I like the idea, now, of a minimalist look on my audio shelf. The two integrated I am looking at is the Pass INT 30 and Luxman L-590ax-ii. For aesthetics, I'm leaning toward the Luxman line and would compare the built-in phono to my Elac PPA-7 with the possibility of getting rid of it as well. I've read that the L-590ax-ii is discontinued. One reason I heard is Luxman is replacing it with an updated version sometime in 2022. The other is that Luxman is getting out of the class-A game.

    Does anyone have any info?

    Hi Arcman,

From what I have heard from a dealer, Luxman does not have a replacement for the unit. I just had my brand new unit delivered on Monday, possibly one of the last new units in the US. This will be a keeper for a long time, even if I move on and need more power!

We have one brand new 595se left. That’s the 590axii on steroids.

Beautiful looking and sounding integrated. Wish I could have spent more time with it.

The 595Se is a beautiful, endgame piece IMO. However, it's quite pricey, especially being limited edition. You'll sell that unit quickly

Re: I am considering going Integrated...Luxman L-590ax-ii discontinued?

Doing some research, I probably could sell my PS Audio BHK pre, FirstWatt J2 and purchase a newer used L-590-axii without much cash out of pocket. I sent an email to Jeff Sigmund of Luxman USA (he has replied to my emails in the past) and see if there is going to be a replacement for the 590-axii in 2022. What I am guessing will happen (just me) is that Luxman will replace the 590 with a NON Anniversary, NON limited edition of the 595se. Basically, start phasing out VU meters. Again just a guess. McIntosh has done so with some components. I can't see Luxman doing an entire redesign for just 300 units.

Let me save you the time, there is no replacement for the 590. Luxman will not be making any more Class A amps for environmental reasons.

Our last 595se is one of the last ones left.

After this, the 507z, 509z, etc will be the future. AB designs. Maybe the 507z would be worth considering.

The meters are not the focus, the Class A is. The 507z will have meters.

Class A draws 100% power from the wall at all times. What it doesn’t use, turns into heat.

I tend to consider myself an environmentalist, but this borders on the ridiculous, especially since the amp could easily be powered by solar or other alternative energy sources. But whatever...

I could see, if it's not already present somewhere or it's coming, companies having to keep "power usage" under certain levels similar to automotive CAFE standards. Eliminating Class A brings their overall product offerings power consumption down a bit.

And in some places outside the US (UK; EU) these are either "illegal" already or soon will be. For this very reason; excessive power consumption.

The INT-60 might have a little more power than than the Luxman (after the first 30 watts in class A, up to about 80 watts in class A/B); most listeners have felt the Pass to be more detailed and dynamic, the Luxman more smooth, although like so many things the preference probably depends on the rest of your system (and I suspect the differences are minimal).

Re: I am considering going Integrated...Luxman L-590ax-ii discontinued?

I prefer smooth. I'm not into the "wooly" tube sound, however, a tad on the warm side of neutral is fine with me. Bright and harsh is the only thing I cannot handle. Once I heard an Onkyo A/V receiver with mid level (non heritage) Klipsch towers at an a/v store and the person playing it cranked it up super loud. The most irritating sound I ever heard and actually swore I would never consider Klipsch based on that encounter. The brightness hurt my ears. Now, I don't know if the person fiddled with any tone settings. That was 20 years ago and I have since heard Klipsch heritage speakers that sound super smooth and almost warm.

Not certain if i would sell it. probably the $2200 range which is what most private sellers are asking (some higher) when they pop up.

I received my new Luxman L595A-SE integrated on Saturday and have about two days of running time on it. So far, so fantastic.

I was concerned about the relative low output, but it is a perfect match for my Sonus Faber speakers.

I was coming from an all-tube system. The Luxman's Class A solid state sound keeps all the warmth but is more transparent and has a more even tonal signature.

    Very nice so far.

Many companies are focused on ESG and could be the reason. Then again, Luxman hasn’t sold a class A stereo amp in years.

Hi, you could run a class A amp for 6 hours a week or class AB for 20, doesn't make any sense at all, wait until they start to faze out petrol and diesel cars out in 8 years, in a vast country like the states, you will be trapped at home, just about make work and back, don't believe the 280 mile range they quote,
