    HifiRose RA180 Subwoofer Output

    Can anyone tell me why my HifiRose RA180 has a fixed subwoofer output instead of variable? Is there something I’m just not getting? It goes to no output at volume zero, but anything else is a fixed output.

    I am totally baffled and disappointed. Is that the new thing? We just have the subs at the same volume regardless of the mains?

    Anyone run into this? It’s a GREAT amp!

    That’s all I got back. The amp sounds so good, a big step up from my NAD M33. The sub out is baffling, I can’t let it go!

    They totally have to resolve that issue. Fixed output on a sub output is useless. Hopefully they'll have a firmware update coming.

    It is not fixed. It is a tapered output called a “narrow taper.” The output needs to see a higher input from the sub. So, turn up the sub output just a bit more and that should fix it.

    Hi Mike, I was hoping you would weigh in. So, at any output level setting on the subwoofer 1-10, the volume on the HifiRose has no effect except at zero, then it shuts off. I urge you to try this with your unit and see if it’s any different. It’s super easy because you can turn the speakers off. I don’t know what tapered output is, but so far I am going to say it’s a fixed mono output. The volume on the Rose has no effect on the subwoofer output.

    Make sure the volume on the sub is up a bit. Failing that, we need to contact MOFI for a solution.

    Can you run the subs speaker level as that would bypass your problem.

    Hi Jack. Yessir, this sub does have speaker level, so that is definitely an option. Thanks everyone. I’m running the Rose 150 streamer into the Rose amp and into a pair of KEF Blades and boy howdy, it does sound very very good. This amp runs the Blades perfectly in the bridge mode (400 watts x 2).

    It will get you in business with the sub until or if HiFi Rose resolves any issue on their end. Just get opposite connector for amp end than what you're using with Blades. May also required an alternative grounding method if Rose's negative speaker terminal are not true ground bit with the ground connector on back of amp not an issue.
