    Enleum

Weíve waited months for the Bakoon 13R replacement (called the Enleum 23R) to arrive, this little amp packs a musical punch! Building on the success of the Bakoon 13R, this little gem is the perfect amp for those choosing musicality over muscle. It works best with moderate to highly efficient speakers. The bass is the biggest surprise. Big bass punch from such a little amp. Mids are SET like and the top end is sweet. We opted for the special isolation footers as well. Pairs brilliantly with Fyne and Avantgarde.

Thanks for the update. Any comparison to the 23R (13R) and the bigger brothers like the 41?

Mine has been playing all night. Itís spectacular. Big open soundstage, wonderful tone and air. Definitely surprising bass, especially for a small unit. Canít wait for it to break in a little more.

Good to hear Joe. This little thing intrigues me for sure. Just trying to move away from real estate issues right now but of course the darn thing has to sound decent. Not chasing audio nirvana.

All the descriptions of this amp sound like what I enjoy. How would this amp do with speakers rated "Impedance: > 5 ohm; Sensitivity: 89 db"? I listen mostly at fairly low volume. Room size is around 25x20x9-12ish (vaulted). Listening position about 9í

    Re: Enleum

I think the speakers you describe could be great on the enelum amp but if you are referring to the scansonic speakers, Iím not sure. The enelum has an open, lit from within sound that is really great especially if the speakers tend to be fuller sounding. Itís a great integrated but a tiny bit shy in the meat on the bone sounding like naim or more classic class A amps. This is not a knock just an observation. Sort of a Job/Goldmund like sound.

    Re: Enleum

I finally landed on the older Enleum, which was previously called Bakoon Int (Korean ones).

As Joe mentioned, you do get a lit up sound. I have the bigger one, Bakoon AMP-51R. Soon In described the bigger Bakoons tend to sound full and a bit more relaxed if I recall our conversation, from the 13R now 23R. I keep reading that as long as your speakers donít dip too far from 8 Ohms, the amp will be happy. I believe thats essentially one of the very few cons I took notice on. The new one(s) may be more stable below the rated 8 ohms.

@joeinid I couldnít agree with you moreÖthe synergy would be on the advantage with speakers that are a tad laid back or fuller sounding. (The Devilles portray that in my experience.)

I find the amp (in referencing to Bakoon which still have most of the sonic signature with the new Enleum) never gets shouty or aggressive when pushed loud, like 90db+ (A bit more headroom with the 51R)
Its a beautiful sound, very addictingÖespecially at low volume. Its so Ďaliveí at low volume.

    Re: Enleum

I listen at what I think are generally low volumes, so maybe that's ok with the scansonic and the Enleum.

No idea if this is even close to valid but I used my phone with decibel meter software and listening at what would be about as loud as I ever would, the DBs were between 60-65 mostly, with some peaks up to maybe around 70-72db.

That help with the question on the match?

    Re: Enleum

Enleum arrived a little while ago and I have it connected and playing some tracks to get warmed up. Just some temporary ICs I had laying around for now while I wait for better ones coming tomorrow.

Unboxing it, my first reaction was surprise at how small it is. It's tiny! But oddly heavy for a small case. Feels well constructed. Aesthetically pleasing. Connecting it was a breeze; super simple back panel layout.

What I hear I already like. A lot. I'm not good with the audiophile adjectives but it's just very musical. Everything I've liked from amps I've had in past systems but so far without any of the weaknesses some of them had, and more musical than all of them. When I say "musical" I'm trying to get at "sounds like what I expect the music to sound like - instrument and voice timbres, placement, space, concussiveness, speed and tonality. No glare, no bloat, no smear. A natural and organic, musical quality that brings the speakers to life a bit more than a couple others I've tried so far.

The small # of watts (and my not terribly efficient speakers) hasn't translated to a lack of volume or oomph. It goes louder than I'll usually play while maintaining control throughout the frequency range - nothing sounds shrill, whoompy or bloated at any volume, and doesn't sound thin or anemic at lower volume.

Unfortunately can't use my beloved balanced/XLR HiDiamond ICs, so I'll get some quality ICs in there tomorrow and keep letting things settle in. Very optimistic, but even if nothing improves from off-the-truck and ICs pulled from a box in my closet, I can see enjoying listening to this amp very much.

This is an integrated you might want to look into during the process of your trials. The US distributor is a dealer in Nashville but he may have others closer. I've found this reviewer's descriptions over the years to be pretty accurate and reliable.

Also might want to try one of the Audia Flight units when Mike gets them in.

    Re: Enleum

I just rounded off now almost a 6 hour listening session with my Bakoon 51R. (Same thing right???) This amp will be with me for a very long time. I might even find a twin to try them out in mono . Unbelievably musical, natural sounding, it wants to pull me in and look into the music or into the stage with the bandÖIíve been listening at 50-55 db and i find no need to go louder to pull out anymore detail or dynamics at this volume cause its so clean and all there (to what my speakers can output)Öthe pace is just so upbeat with rhythmic tunes. I feel like such a bum today cause I havenít really left the couch since afternoon today. Took a break for dinner and thats about itÖIíve been playing everything from pop, classical, 70/80s, soul, some orchestral, jazzÖi just let my streamer invade my privacy and let it curate and randomly play music that it thinks i would likeÖi dont think Iíve skipped one single song yet.

    Re: Enleum

You can get it without the feet, and save around $500. The feet look great in pics, but there are less expensive alternatives if 500 strikes you as much for some isolation. I don't have the feet, love the amp anyway.

    Re: Enleum

Anyone know what the fuse is in the Enleum, and what type of remote - IR, RF?

Is it slow 4a (T4AL) based on the back panel? I'm confused cause it seems to list 2, also with T2.5AL/250v (maybe depends on circuit type?). Far as remote, I want to pick up a learning remote if possible, I'm sure I'll lose the one that came with it at some point, or my girlfriend will.

    thanks!

Overall he seemed very impressed, which I agree with.

Main criticism seemed to be "bass with inefficient speakers". I have 89db efficient speakers - not terribly efficient - but the Enleum produces more than enough bass in my system/room, at least for my preferences. It really is surprising that so much sound, of such high quality, comes from such a small device.

Given the choice between the Enleum and my previous Ayre MX-R Twenties (and others) - which were incredible pieces of kit with an iron-fisted grip and tons of attack/punch, I'd take the Enleum for overall musicality and enjoyment. If I had a larger room or listened regularly at higher volumes maybe the answer would be different, not that it doesn't go quite loud with no strain.

    Enleum

Itís a good little amp, but itís no tier 1 giant killer. Itís a tiny amp trying to sound big and I donít mean that as a negative because itís very impressive for its diminutive size. It has a sweet musical sound. If youíve got a tight budget and efficient speakers, itís worth an audition. Itís internal headphone amp is excellent and itís tiny size is great for those trying to save space and not lift a honker of an amp!

The INT-25 from Pass is a step up IMO.

Yes, I noticed none of the respondents mentioned that, so assumed it wasnít an issue. But it would be comforting if addressed, since one of my objectives was a cool running amp for hot Summer weather. Thanks.

It runs very warm, but not so warm you can't hold your hand on it. After I saw that post I tried that and you can comfortably hold your hand on it indefinitely.

Wanted to share my thoughts on the Bakoon and speaker pairing. I had initially struggled to find the right amp for my Magico A3s. My old Luxman 505u and a Benchmark AHB2 just were not sufficient for these speakers. Recently I was able to obtain a 13R and the A3s are utterly transformed. Fast, taut, detailed, all without any hint of stridency. I was also able to compare to a Pass 150.8, which has many wonderful qualities, but lacks a bit of treble energy compared to the Bakoon, and isnít nearly as enjoyable at lower volumes. I also tried the 13R into Sierra 2 EXs and I found them to be less transformative for those speakers. I am absolutely impressed by what this amp is doing and will be obtaining a Enleum down the road for comparison. Got to love it when everything clicks into place.

Yes, its a solid amp..and with the right pairing - it performs like the popular, top shelf amps. It never seems to get in the way. Iíve run mine at 100db + (max volume 50) and no sounds of struggle or tonal changes.

This just goes to show how important it is to match the amp to speakers. The pairing can make or break the synergy between the two. Never give up.

Very positive review of this little piece of magic. I completely agree with just about everything he says. Fact is Iíd take this amp over any amp Iíve owned to-date, including the Ayre MX-R Twenties.

Although everyone talks about needing hyper-sensitive speakers, Iíve paired the amp with 89db ďat >5 ohmĒ speakers, even though the speaker manufacturer recommends an amp >50w. In reply to an initial inquiry Soo In did say he thought the amp would be just fine with those speakers. And honestly itís hard to imagine being happier than this pairing.

They are superb amps, I can attest to that review running a prior flagship and the same speakers. If my Bakoon 51R ever croaks over, which I doubt it will any time soon, Iím glad I have options, and even be on the positive side recovering shelf space should I go the small footprint route but without sacrificing the sonic qualities. Iím glad its getting its 15 min of fame - Though, I was hoping it wouldnít become a flavor-of-the-month component. Looks like they are on a campaign . Regardless, well deserved - these amps flew under radar for a long long time. Steve agrees with me, end game combo for sure. Well at least for me, heíll tell you something else next year lol.

Cant wait for Soo Inís next component reveal. I hope its something with SATRI/Enlink.

    Re: Enleum

Just heard about this little guy and am my trigger finger is getting very itchy. Thinking about replacing my Luxman L-509x in my bedroom system with this. Am I crazy? The 509x is superb--I enjoy it more than the Hegel H390, LTA Z10, Accuphase E650, and ARC Ref 75 SE that came before it. But, when I use the pre-outs into my Luxman M800a its shortcomings (to me) become apparent. Soundstage is not nearly as deep and the presentation is just overall flatter, more forward, and crisp sounding, meaning that tonally it doesn't have the body and 3D realism that the big class A amp does. Still, if I don't compare it directly to the M800a, I am quite happy to settle down with the 509x for my secondary system.

Running it with MSB Analog DAC and Wilson Tunetots + REL T-Zero Mk III sub.

My space is fairly small, I don't listen loudly, and bass slam is not a priority. Rich tone, accurate timbre, soundstage depth and back of stage detail/nuance, 3D imaging of individual instruments are what it's all about for me. I like to be seduced by a good classical (small ensemble, soloist) or jazz performance, but listen to a lot of rock (more indie, less hard stuff), and some R&B, funk, hip-hop, electronic. I love SET tube sound, but heat is a concern. Apparently the Enleum runs hot, but since it's such a small surface area maybe the overall heat output isn't so bad?

Mike's comment about the INT-25 being a step above gives me pause. I had an XA25 and thought it was terrific, but it's too hot and overall the 509x is a better package for me.
