Re: Bob Carver KT150 mono amps

A significant feature of Bob’s design is its ability to “listen to the room,” sometimes referred to as the ‘speaker-microphone effect.’ Facilitated by a special current feedback loop, it allows the amplifier to ‘hear’ the room's reverb, along with its unique sonic signature. Each room plays its own tune, and this amp uses the speaker as a microphone by using the speaker in reverse (the theorem of reciprocity) to ‘listen to the room,’ thereby allowing a portion of the room acoustic to be expressed through the main speakers.

I thought I'd read most of the pitch.....

So in effect it enhances the feedback loop by incorporating room acoustics. Not sure that would result in realistic or accurate reproduction but that's never seemed to be a priority of Bob Carver's designs; it should however present an interesting effect if that's what's desired.

Well for 350 tooby watts per channel for less than 10K should be getting more attn. was hoping to hear an opinion on what they compare to. BTW Bob can be outrageous and circus like on his marketing , sonic wise he has delivered on some of his previous offerings..

Re: Bob Carver KT150 mono amps

I had 2 of the little 20wpc Bob Carver amps. As monos they put out 40wpc. When using one or two, they were wonderful. I ended up selling one and used the other one until my brother heard it and had to have it. He still uses it and loves it. I can’t explain it but it really does sound good. I’ve been tempted many times by its big brothers. I’ve always been leery of Bob’s business practices but he certainly has a great vision. Many owners love their Carver amps.

Re: Bob Carver KT150 mono amps

I got to meet Mr. Carver last year at the NY audio show. The room with his line source speakers really did sound amazing.

He's quite a character to be sure. Many ideas over the years, some made sense to me, others seemed strange... but I must admit he's in the game and has brought much to our hobby in my opinion.

I have to admit when I saw him introduce Valve based amplifiers years back I was a bit surprised.
I'm old enough to remember back in the day when he claimed he could make his mainstream $700 SS amplifier sound like any high-end amplifier simply by tweaking it internally. (no fancy components needed)

The article written by JGH concluded that in fact, Carver's $700 mainstream SS amplifier had been tweaked enough to match in every respect a reference Tube-Amp.

Didn't mean to side-track this thread! but it's one of the more fascinating stories of Audiophile Lore.
