Thanks for posting Joe --I own the Mactone--great to see the brand getting some recognition since 1964!

Seriously good and superbly musical--I had Shindo, Jadis, in house and the Mactone smoked both brands.

"Now, I’m amazed at the quality and clean reproduction of the lower bass notes. From top to bottom it sounds as though I have upgraded my speaker system. I love trumpet music and I’ve always perceived that as FAST as Dizzy Gillespie is, he wasn’t completing the notes. He was blasting them out. Now I realize that my previous amplifiers from the last 12 years haven’t been fast enough to keep up with him. Now I am hearing how crisp and clean each note he plays is. Amazing. People often describe sound with depth and width. With this amp, I’m describing it as a “sound field” There is a comprehensiveness to what I’m hearing now that previously didn’t exist. I’ve never heard anything like this. In my system, this is even quieter than the PS Audio amps."

Yeah, specs like these do require some physical heft...

    1,500 W RMS at 8Ω
    3,000 W RMS at 4Ω
    6,000 W RMS at 2Ω

    320 V peak-to-peak
    113 V RMS

    Output Current 400 A peak

    Weight 570 lbs

Better use that back "support brace" when lifting...

Audionet Stern Linestage and Heisenberg Monoblocks | The Absolute Sound
    Summing Up
Acknowledging the remarkable advancements we’ve witnessed in solid-state amplification over the past dozen years or so, especially those leveraged by a number of industry leaders, most notably from the U.S., Germany, and Switzerland, nothing else in my immediate experience better demonstrates the transistor’s ability to accurately and artfully combine delicacy with power, focus with bloom, resolution with body, detail with texture, and clarity with expressiveness than the Stern and Heisenberg. These flagship Scientist Series products from Audionet should be seen as more than merely the significant accomplishment of Thomas Gessler’s vision; they represent the embodiment of the most refined triple threat available today—class-leading design and build-quality, outstanding specifications, and landmark sonic performance.

    might push the bottom tomorrow

my choice too, listening to them right now and loving it!

they really do it all in my system. i've had a few other fine amps in here but these just get out of the way of the music so well. and don't sound like tubes or solid state. they sound like music. i never get the sense i am hearing though something. just direct to the performance.

the gold anodized color is not my favorite, but in person the design 'works' and i don't mind it at all. it projects a very swiss 'Rolex' sort of vibe. i've seen these amps in black anoidized with silver accents and i prefer the gold.

heard them at 2019 Axpona, and did not care for the system sound. but it was a Friday, first day of a three day show, and a very big and involved system. so no way to point fingers at specific gear. i think it's so hard to judge any gear outside a mature system where they can be optimized. top gear is never plug and play.

i'm sure they can sound awesome. reports are very positive.

Come on over for a listen! Both are world class, but different. Mephisto impresses you with her massive soundstage, slam and bass that is just unreal. The Boulder gets to you in a more of a transparent, but smoooooth, totally un-solid state, almost tube like sound. One for your head, one for your heart. Pick your poison.

this is why dartzeel468 and heisenberg are sitting on the throne as they deliver the combination of soundstage/slam/bass AND transparent/tube-like on the highest level.

Re: The Best Amplifiers | Buyers Guide 2021

after my post i started to read a review about the 468 and found this

" instrumental attacks and overall transient performance remained the best I've heard from a solid-state amplifier. No doubt, though, those who demand more tight-fisted control and bottom-end "slam" might look toward something from Boulder, for instance."

    and

"Those who prefer in a solid-state amp greater bottom-end "grip" and iron-fisted control may want to consider a different amplifier. As I mentioned above, I think the CH Precision M1.1s produce more weight and punch on bottom, and Boulder's amps tend to have more overall speaker grip. However, in my system, the darTZeel "sound" is ideal for all musical genres: good grip on bottom, natural transient performance, plenty of air on top if it's in the recording, and never even a hint of etch, grain, or edge."

so the boulder in this case seems to be the bassmonster.
and gryphon will kill you i guess

XA25 is a great performer. I bought 15 SIT-3’s and sold them all except one that I kept for myself. Now that’s a great amp!
