Attention all Luxman 595 owners - What volume percentage does it switch from class a to class ab?

For Luxman 595 - What volume percentage does it switch from class a to class ab?

Using blue tooth streaming from my phone on the eversolo Z8 (vol 100%), I can put the Luxman 595 up to about mark 21 on the volume dial. This is right before it gets so loud it feels like it might start to distort. Also, I like to keep the loudness button enabled at all times. I like the fuller sound it gives.

Does anyone know, am I still in class A at this point?

Note: currently using Sonus Faber Lumina II speakers which are not very efficient at 86db

There's not a specific volume control setting that corresponds to when Class A operation will go into A/B, there are too many variables involved. Output level of the source component, dynamics of the music, loudness control setting, etc. Just enjoy the music, as long as it sounds good you have nothing to worry about regarding its class of operation.

Keeping the loudness button engaged when listening at high levels is how people blow their speakers up. I'm now convinced that you are in way over your head in this hobby for the here and now. You are aimlessly wandering around the audiophile desert with no map, no compass, no GPS, and no guide.
 
Loudness control is to compensate when listening at lower levels. As stated when the volume is turned up the Loudness should go off.

Going from Class A to A/B is over my head to explain properly I'd suggest finding and reading Nelson Pass's explanation. In short, you won't be able to hear or tell if or when the switch happens.
 
All SS amplifiers transitions to Class B from Class A once pass quiescent Bias , on the Luxman i think its at 15 watts or less..!

Above this is Class B operation ..!

I believe that is for the normal luxman class a/b amps? But for the 595 it's 30 watts class a and class a/b after?
 
I know nothing other than to consider gain-staging. Setup the powered components in their sweet spot. I'm trying to find mine, it's a work in progress. Probably you're way past this but also it seems to be a moving target (not moving that much really) if things are breaking-in. Anywho, just set the amp in one spot/ narrow range?, if you need to boost its volume later to fit your room, then dial it up later? after all the other stages are sweet. I hope that works because that's what I'm doing.

edit jeepers I'd love to try a Luxman Class A. I've got Pass and First Wattters. And Parasound JC that runs A. I've never got the JC's to A/B type volumes, yet.

The amp does not 'switch' between modes. It is more aptly described as a transition, one which you can't hear. Really. So don't worry about it. When you are pushing the amp hard to where is sounds loud, its clearly in B operation at that point since its near full power.

Yes if you mean 15/15 to equal 30 watts and not 30/30 , @30/30 it would be a toaster and frankly those heatsinks would be too small to contain ..

It is rated at a full 30 watts per channel of Class A at 8 ohms. So once you turn up the volume to sufficiently get "past" the 30 watts of Class A, then it will move out of pure Class A.
