Vinyl Cleaning Question
I'm curious about peoples habits when it comes to record cleaning.
When you get a brand new album, do you clean it on your machine before you play it for the first time? Or just put it on and play it?
I always clean mine first with my Clearaudio Double Matrix.Mark

Re: Vinyl Cleaning Question
I always clean mine before playing the album. Too many contaminants that may impact the sound or contaminate the stylus.

Re: Vinyl Cleaning Question
Agree,
I like to ultrasonic clean then wash and vacuum all records new or old , but will admit i have thrown many on before doing so due to time and laziness ..

Re: Vinyl Cleaning Question
I run every new album through the Degritter before it is played the first time. It then is placed into a quality inner sleeve if it did not arrive in one. At that point it joins the collect to be added to the rotation.

Re: Vinyl Cleaning Question
Like Rick I utilize my Degriter that I purchased from Mike this past March. While I also make sure an archivable sleeve is used I make a date note with a sharpie in a corner of the sleeve to show when it was cleaned last.
Cheers ! …. Dave

Re: Vinyl Cleaning Question
Always when brand new. Then after a few plays I may do a light clean. I use the Clearaudio Double Matrix ultrasonic cleaning machine.
Also, I baby my records. No finger prints. Always brush with the AQ brush. Consistently clean the stylus. And, replace the album sleeves with Mob Fid sleeves._______________

Re: Vinyl Cleaning Question
always put into the KL Audio US record cleaner, then into poly sleeves - poly lined cut off paper from covers33 for any albums that do not have cardboard lyric inners and standard U shaped poly sleeves for any albums that come with a cardboard inner.

Yes, always clean new record. It makes them anti-static and lowers the groove noise.

Re: Vinyl Cleaning Question
All new (and new-to-me) LPs go through my SpinClean using their recommended concentration of their cleaning solution. I follow that with a medium clean in my Degritter ultrasonic cleaner using 1 ml of their cleaning solution in distilled water (1/2 of their max recommended solution). I view the Degritter solution concentration as a balance between leaving stuff on the record and not having adequate wetting to clean out the grooves. I'm very happy with my routine. Previously I used the SpinClean and NittyGritty which worked ok. For records cleaned this way I just hit them with a medium cycle on the Degritter. It's like having a new record collection.

Re: Vinyl Cleaning Question
I clean every record, new or used, with my Project machine first and then all records go through a cleaning routine prior to playing. The routine consist of a wet clean with de-ionized water with Disk Doctor brush, then a dry mo-fi brush, then a carbon fiber AQ anti-static brush. The stylus gets a Last brush or gel, or dry cleaner. MC cartridge get a Last Stylast treatment.
Every few playing the records go through the Project RCM again.McIntosh C49, MC152, MR85, R778 | T+A DAC 8 DSD | KEF LS50 Meta w/S2, KC62 (x2) | Rega RP8, Ania Pro, NEO PSU | Technics SL-1500C | Audio Technica VM750ML | Hexmat Eclipse, Yellow Bird, Molekula, Molekula Mini | Pro-Ject VC-E | Falcon NW PC Server (Roon Core & HQPlayer) | Microsoft Surface Pro 6 (Roon Controller) | Abyss Diana Phi | Schiit Jotunheim 2 | Astell&Kern SE200 | Oppo BDP105

Re: Vinyl Cleaning Question
I play it first. If it sounds like it needs a cleaning, I give it a scrub and start it over.
