used Select II, for sure. different level of performance. add a second power supply later. read out screen more user friendly. 8 dac chips per channel. lower noise. software upgradable. better resale.
not done the clock compare with the...
LOL, so tell me, who are you ? What kind of engineering / science degree do you have ? ..... can read you like a dime store novel or an over priced Volkswagen !
That used one is VERY old, only one power supply (not two as standard) and the old standard clock (not the much better femto 33, which even the ref has!). A ref with femto 33 will outperform this used one AND you get to take advantage of the trade...
Boy that's SO true about the PBJ's. One time on a lark, I got a pair of PBJ's and Hero's of the same length, and WOW there was a huge difference, immediately noticed and undeniable. While the PBJ's sounded exciting at first, when I got agitated...
Preliminary support for differentiation of Qobuz / Tidal work/disc (i.e. multiple symphonies or discs under a single album) is available as Lumin Android app beta. Let me know if any Android user likes to try it.
Of course it was the typical snobbery and price shaming. It was what it was.
It was stereogeek who said they were tone controls. I only pointed out that IF a cable is changing the sound (and often changes in highs, mids, bass are...
Ditto, great video on the process in the support section at the MSB site.
I played the file via Roon from a NUC over Ethernet. Would be the same via direct USB connection.
Make sure to turn off any resampling, or filters, on your playback...
The MSB update is pretty simply. They have instructions on the site on how to upgrade. The upgrade is really just downloading the new firmware file and playing it in bit perfect mode. I just copied the file from my PC (where I downloaded it to) to...
snobbery, price shaming, not at all, use whatever you want. however, pot meet kettle, who are the one talking about cables are tone controls and " Fairly amazing how much money some audiophiles will pay for making a wire a tone control (and in many...
I own an MSB Discrete with dual power supplies. I'm not at all techy, so I'm not any kind of expert on the MSB or contmporary. I just know it sounds great to my ears. I haven't seen anything about a firmware update. Not sure I'd know how to install...
There is a rumor going around in the Roon Community forums that Aurender will soon be releasing new products that will be Roon-Ready. If that is the case, as a Roon user your metadata problem goes away since you can tell Roon to choose their...
Yeah, that's a pretty typical response. Just the type of snobbery and "price shaming" that gives audiophiles a bad name. Well done.
(And of course you have no idea what cables I've had...and still have...in my system...)
OK I'm thinking of moving up the MSB line. I currently have a Premier DAC. I came across a used 7 year old Select II (Single PS) DAC that I can get for close to the same price of moving to a new Reference. I'm leaning towards the new Reference but a...
Absolutely Tom. My neighbor gave me a video pen to video the tour. I don’t think I’ll chance it – I’m sure they have detectors and won’t do something stupid to jeopardize my last in a lifetime opportunity.
Thank you Nikhil – we wish so too....
The metadata on my Aurender N20 is already a mess. I transferred files that had been burned via different machines over 16 years. I lack the skill set to do any repairs. Albums that JRiver showed complete now show up as separate tracks. Sometimes...
Why not buy the ACS30? Or, add the ACS10 to your existing N20. You can hook up an existing hard drive to the ACS and adding an ACS gets you future easy ripping/storing. metadata can be changed by the Aurender app or computer.
“I've grown to use it almost exclusively because with the Statement NG, music sounds more vital than it does through Roon.”
When I first told people roon was not the best sounding, they thought I was crazy. How could software affect the sound?
...
Got it!
Just a word of caution: If you are plan to rip classical music CDs, you should be aware that the metadata for classical music is all over the place. I would assume (but not certain) that the (Aurender) device where your music will be...
This update of Stereophile's 2020 Innuos Statement review might be of interest. The author is a professional music critic in addition to a hardware component critic, and here we see some interesting commentary on the Next Gen hardware upgrade and...
In the 90s, everyone in our students diving club had a G-Shock (that was in the pre diving computer era). It was also the only watch I could take windsurfing, without worrying too much (if at all) about it. I remember once I took my new Swatch ......
Yep, I understand your experience. Something I've found really helpful (and that Aurender should provide) for performing these tasks is a process map.
Also, not sure that every update to the Mac OS or the Aurender Conductor app would necessitate...
Thanks to everyone. By server I mean music stored on an HDD or SSD drive for playback. I am not sure why that was not clear.
Thanks for the education on various options. None really work for me. I already have an Aurender N20. If I make a...
Last night I installed and mounted the new 4T Samsung 870 EVO SSD to the MUSIC1 slot on the Aurender N20. Once the MUSIC1 SSD was mounted it was a simple task to transfer (copy and paste) from any Mac on our local area network. I was enjoying music...
They incorporated a streaming platform of Arcam's to use in their 5000 Mark Levinson home series. The same bay be true for some of their other lines, I'm just not sure. Acquiring Roon was a good move for Harman and has lot of potential for their...
Looking at Harman brands I’d say they’ve fallen behind in the streaming world. ROON gives them a solid platform on which their brands can innovate further. Being a customer victim of their in-car software they need a lot of help. ;)
I spent quite a bit of time in Schoenaich last we had a factory and degign group there. Got to the museum but never had a chance to go on a factory tour. Full report on return please! It would be fun to see where my 911 was made.
The Chesky binaural recordings are all impressive. For most studio recordings I use crossfeed in ROON which really cleans up the presentation and makes the stereo image more stable and more like you’d experience listening to speakers. I use LCD-4’a...
Really? All accounts? Certainly not mine or others who have replied to this thread and elsewhere on the forum. The LUMIN App works (and sounds) very good indeed.
Yes. Take a look at the NAD M50.2. It can rip your CDs directly onto its twin hard drives (for added security), it can simply play your CDs, and it's a music streamer too. No DAC but AES/EBU as well as coax and optical outputs. Does a few other...
Nucleus is not a UPnP server, you cannot use Lumin app with it.
The correct way to use both Roon and Lumin app is this:
1. If you have a Synology or QNAP NAS, simply install the free MinimServer to the NAS. Roon can see the NAS music lirbrary...
Correct. I have their drive for my 180B to rip. I did testing comparing the drive to an Apple drive and the Rose unit sounded better. I was surprised as I thought they'd sound the same. They don't.
I've never tried it through the Denali and, FWIW, I use a Sigma V2 XC power cable for the amp, not an NR, so I'm not too worried about noise filtering.
