    Stillpoints Aperture II Panels Questions

So I'm thinking about getting some Aperture II Panels. My dedicated listening room is about 5 or 6 weeks from being completed. The room will be 18.6' x 14.1' x 8'.

I of course would like to treat the room with some diffusion and absorption. I would like to include the Stillpoints Aperture II Panels but my budget will allow only 2 since they are not inexpensive.

Will 2 be enough to start with and if so where would be the best place to install them? When budget allows I would add more.

Does anyone combine the Aperture Panels with any other type of room treatment or do you strictly do Aperture Panels?

Those buggers make quite the impact.

Somehow if you could get a third you could have one in the middle between the speakers and one on each side of the first reflection points, or try them on each side of the speakers and one in front other in the in the back

They are thick enough to stand up on their own on a chair or similar or you can lean against the wall allowing you to do this test

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately only 2 Apertures are in my budget at this time. I will experiment with the 2 Apertures and when budget allows (or if the wife goes away for a few days) I'll add more.

Mix 'n Match with some GIK Acoustics Alpha 4A panels as well, Phil, as we've discussed elsewhere.

Re: Stillpoints Aperture II Panels Questions

I now have 6 of the Aperture ll's. I also have 4 ASC Tube traps in the corners.
I started with 2 and placed them at the first reflection point. But, believe me you will want more...

Hi Ozzy...where are the 6 located? Did you from 2 straight to 6?

Re: Stillpoints Aperture II Panels Questions

I have one Aperture on the front wall between the speakers. Room is 13'6" x 10'x 9'. small. I also have 2'x2'x4" corner traps at the ceiling. Sounds great. The one Aperture took the place of multiple treatment panels and did a much, much better job. Everything is better The reason I got mine is a friend bought 2 and found that one was enough. His room is bigger than mine.

Start with two as you state and go from there. Experiment and listen for a few days as you go. It is hard to guess where they will end up given their multifunctional performance. Good luck and enjoy the journey!

Re: Stillpoints Aperture II Panels Questions

I have 5 Apertures. Two at the first reflection point of the left speaker and three at the first reflection point of the right speaker. The right speaker's Apertures fill an open doorway. Both sets are on Aperture stands that I roll into place. Behind the speakers, on the front wall, I have a combination of Artnovion diffusors and absorbers. Artnovion bass traps on the front wall corners at the ceilings. This has helped me have more even sound from each speaker and remove some smearing.

Thanks for the replies. Construction in my house which includes a dedicated listening room is easily at least 4 weeks from completion. I can't wait to start my listening sessions with the Apertures.

Re: Stillpoints Aperture II Panels Questions

    Audiophilehi,
Sorry for the late reply. I did start with 2. I put them on the first side reflections.
Then I bought 2 more. I found that I preferred 2 on each side wall reflection one on top of the other-basically covering 4 feet on each side wall first reflection, more so than at the center position.
But, when funds became available I then bought 2 more and placed them in the center-one on top of the other. Again, covering about 4 feet in height. (actually I think it is 44 inches).
I also have 4 ASC 20" tube traps in the corners and 4 more 2x4 ATC wall panels behind the speakers.

Re: Stillpoints Aperture II Panels Questions

As an update to my earlier post, after talking with Bruce Jacobs at AXPONA this year, and visiting their room I modified my placement. I now have one Aperture positioned about 2 feet from each speaker at first reflection, angled slightly toward my listening position. I have three Apertures in middle of the front wall, flanked by Artnovion absorbers and diffusors. If you don't have a local dealer, you may wish to reach out to Stillpoints directly. I've always found them to be very helpful.
