New GIK Acoustics SlatFusor acoustical panels: great value

GIK Acoustics recently released a new product called the Slatfusor.

This is a well-designed but quite affordable panel and as part of the launch of this new class of product, GIK currently has a great introductory price with a 15% discount, so this really nicely designed and constructed 23.5" x 45.5" panel was only...$119.

Here's the link to it on GIK's web site: SlatFusor Series - Gik Acoustics

While they were on the introductory sale, I picked one up to mount on the "halfwall" that is my counter between my living space and kitchen area.

It arrived today and I was really impressed with both the build quality and aesthetics. It's 2.75" thick and has real fiberglass (sealed in a "bag"), in the backside to function as the soundproofing damping material.

I mounted it using a standard picture "cleat and hanger", affixing the cleat along the top edge of the Slatfusor.

Here's a pic showing it mounted up. The other nice thing is, it's exactly the width of my halfwall, though, because of it's thickness, may not look like it in the photo due "parallax error".

As you can see, it also has Ringo's Seal of Approval.

These are really great, they're beautifully made and finished, and an excellent value, especially so at the currently discounted price. In retrospect, I should have originally ordered 2 or 3 of these but as there currently is still a 15% discount on them, I'm going to order 1 or 2 more. Lead time from order to fulfillment is ~4-6 weeks.

    Top marks from PC...

I like them, they seem to be doing a good job. I've got a pair behind the speakers and at the first and second reflection points. Alpha panels are behind the rack. They all went in a new dedicated room I finished building at our house in Greenville, SC first of November. The corner bass traps however I ordered from ATS in Chicago as they are much better built than the ones from GIK and I have owned them from both companies before.

Very cool, Jack, thanks for sharing. I'm presently using GIK Impression-series acoustic foam panels at the 1st reflection points, and six 4" Alpha 4As (as well as an Impression panel behind my Core Audio racks, as it's half the thickness of the Alphas) on the front wall, as shown. You already know how good the Alphas are, and the GIK Impression panels also very good. Here's a pic for reference.

Yes the Impression panels are also good. I've still got 4 of the 2'x2' Impression panels and 2 of the 2'x4' panels to hang on the back walls over the LP Bins and storage cabinet for the RCM and accessories but didn't want to strip the walls of treatments in the room in the Florida house just yet. I will wait until all the gear is moved out and the house is ready to go on the market. Also have a pair of the "lighter weight" GIK corner traps to figure out what to do with. Guess I can just stack them on top of the ATS traps already in place and see how that works out. Even without all of the treatments in place yet this from the ground up room sounds good. Will be glad to get it all finalized over the next couple of months.

Your room with the new panel and Core racks looks good.

Very useful and helpful info, Jack. I've also thought about getting a couple of the GIK corner traps as well.

Yeah, the Core racks are really superb. A feature I didn't consider when I ordered them is they are very attractive, and make the space more beautiful compared to my black Sanus Euro II rack. Their color tones complement the Harbeths and Resonant Woods stands nicely.

    Thanks and cheers.

Stephen / Jack, thanks for you updates on GIK. Satisfied customer here as well, utilizing their corner bass trapping behind my Revel's.

Nice! I should get some of their corner bass traps as well; they’d match the 4As nicely. Great company, and GIK recently removed their “minimum of 4 pieces” requirement, so you can now order just 1 or 2 items. When I ordered my Impressions panels a year or so ago, I had to order four of them, even though I only needed two or three.

Re: New GIK Acoustics SlatFusor acoustical panels: great value

Has anyone tried staining the wood? My system is "very put together" as my friends describe it. My rack is California (aka Claro) walnut which has a strong red undertone. My walnut speaker rails and amp stands were stained and oiled to match. Speaker grill cloth is very close in color and so are my acoustic panels. The oak diffusers would be an unwelcome contrast.

How thick is the wood veneer? I am thinking staining the edges might be a fools task.

I haven't tried staining them. I just buy 'em and put 'em up.

I don't know. I'd reach out to GIK about that.

Sorry, Dizzie, and most respectfully, I can't speak to things about which I have no data.

I meant how thick is the exposed wood strip. e.g. 1/4", 1/8"? I am trying to find out how much edge there is that I might want to stain.

Stephen, GIK has introduced their Wood Slat Corner Bass Trap, also. You can see how I used 8 of the GIK Slat Fusers, as well as other GIK products, by clicking on my link below. I like them.

Oh, nice! I also went to GIK's web site and looked them up: Wood Slat Corner Bass Trap - SlatFusor - GIK Acoustics

I may have to get one of these, as well; I have the perfect location for placing it, and it doing so would free up another one of my Alpha panels for use elsewhere. Thanks so much for letting me know about these.
