    My acoustic panel journey

    Hi all,

I'm still very new to acoustic panels, so I'm having fun experimenting. I noticed that all the Magnolia Design Centers use acoustic panels from a company called Acoustic Geometry. The construction and acoustic properties seemed to be really great. I looked at the price online as well for a "room pack," and it was very reasonable.

I got the "Room Pack 3" which was $999.

Here's what $999 of room treatment looks like once unpacked:

    (2) diffusers
    (4) 2'x4' panels
    (6) 2'x2' panels

I started in my office, which is a small 10x11' room which had a very bad echo when you clap.

I placed a pair of 2'x2' panels behind each speaker like so:

I then placed a pair of 2'x4' panels and a pair of 2'x2' panels directly behind me in the corner to stop the slap echo:

I was pleasantly surprised to see the terrible echo completely disappear. When I clap, it's a nice snap to it. The room acoustics is night and day after the acoustic treatments. I feel like I'm in a recording studio now. These old McIntosh XR50s sound like new speakers. I can't wait to receive the Focal Sopra 1s in a couple of days. :music:

I didn't stop with my office. I also went to work on my larger system and home theater in the down stairs living room. Due to its very, very odd geometry and angles, the echo wasn't bad at all. I figure applying some room treatment could only make it better.

Here is what I started with:

Due to the available space on the walls because of my large 100" screen, I could only fit the diffusers behind where the speakers will go. I was also able to fit a 2'x4' panel on the side wall.

I don't have my Focal Sopra 2s yet, so I wasn't able to test it. I should receive the Focal Sopra2s in about 10 days, so I will report back in.

    Thanks!

Nice job. If at all possible be sure and go after the first reflection points in your living room. Great equipment.

Room treatments do help, I had a positive experience when adding them as well.

You should notice more bass detail as well as fine detail easier to hear.

    Congrats, on new speakers.

    Re: My acoustic panel journey

I just watched some of their videos which I really liked unfortunately the price of the home room pack 3 has almost doubled in 3 years. It appears GIK would be the better cost option. As soon as my room is done I’ll check out their free advice.
