First post, advice needed on curtains

This is my first post, I recently built a new house with a specially designed dedicated stereo room. Everything is essentially complete but the curtains on the back wall windows (needed windows to stay since they are in front house). My designer recommended theatre thickness curtains because he measured a reflection coming from the windows seen in the decay time. My question is any advice on what to go with material wise? Any other advice?

Welcome! What's your first name? Nice system!

Do you have a concern with your designers recommendation?

Jeff Whitlock of AV Solutions is pretty good with this stuff. Maybe he will chime in.

My name Eric, thx for the welcome. My designer did a great job, just thought I would like some comments on curtain specifics particularly in terms of material. thx again.

Hi Eric! I have a similar window, but I put a wooden shutter over it.

Eric, unless you really have a frequency you're targeting, most curtains will only slightly effect the highest frequencies anyway, and tune down reflections a wee bit. I say get something nice and heavy that suits your room aesthetically. Beware the price! Curtains can get spendy pretty quickly. And go with a good curtain shop if you get an expensive fabric 'cause they'll know how to work with it. (Said the guy who learned the hard way.) I used Seattle Curtain 'cause they were the local experienced shop that does lots of work for hotels and large office projects. We used a "retail" shop for some other curtains in our home many years back and ended up replacing everything 'cause it just never looked right. (The wife factor must be honored!)

Now I will have to find the local shop here in the Portland area, as we just moved into our new place a month back.

Those quiet curtains were installed yesterday, what a difference in the sound, the soundstage is wider and more stable

Re: First post, advice needed on curtains

Thx everyone for the words, need to post a system picture soon. As for how much they cost, I paid ~1200 for both windows that includes curtains, rods and everything to hang them. One window is about 90" wide, the other around 48".

Big plus one! If you want to "beef" up the absorption you can also put thicker panels behind the curtains to help.
