Accuphase Price Increase

As if this brand isn't already overpriced in the US, Accuphase prices will increase effective 11/1

One example is the E-800 currently listed at $21,500 that will go up to $25,000

The sad part is that the E-800 is not better than the Luxman L-590 AXII. I personally know 4 people (well 5 counting myself) who have dumped their E-800 amps after buying into the hype.

The real slap in the face is when one realizes that Accuphase goes for half the price in its home market of Japan...

Accuphase is a very rare breed in UK, probably as the distributor doesn't seem to work hard to promote it. The E-800 is offered by a dealer here for £15,000 and in Europe for about €15000. Whether prices here will rise I don't know, but it's unusual for prices here to be lower than US.

I wanted an Accuphase A-36 for my horn speakers but had to buy from Sweden to find a used one - nothing in UK. What a beautifully built amplifier with such flexibility. Trouble was it just failed to excite as some others amps do - now sold.

My new NAD M33 is listed here for £4000 but I believe it's higher in EU and US - another surprise.

The US distributor is jacking up the price for the US. Luxman used to be liked this until they brought US distribution in-house. Always considered demoing Accuphase but the price delta between the US and Japan is laughable.

Mike said it best, seems that the price increase should be right out of a comedy skit to see customer reactions. There is already so much margin no matter what the rising costs are.

Hmmm Interesting observation-I did see some wag mention Accuphase is the McIntosh of Japan :P

Compared to Japan the price of Accuphase is high also in Europe, but I always "enjoyed" the resale value after 4 or 5 years of owning it. (60-65% of original value)
Most other brands I owned I had to drop a lot more of the original value after 4/5 years.

The key to buying Accuphase in the US is to get a massive discount.

I bought mine for $15,000 which was a 30% discount. Thought I had done really well until that same dealer just sold a new in box one for $12,500.

Seems like there are lots of creative pricing strategies between the US importer and one (or more) or more of his dealers. I am not sure how this helps the brand, long-term.

US distributor is effectively killing the brand in US. Plain and simple. Accuphase itself doesn’t seem to give a rat’s ass either. Good for Luxman I guess, they can dominate Japanese import market in the US.

There are strong personal and cultural ties between Arturo (owner of Axxis Audio) the US distributor and Accuphase management in Japan.

Interesting you mention that. If there is personal ties then makes sense why Accuphase doesn't take any actions against Axxis Audio. Oh well let them do what they want to do. There is Luxman and Esoteric from Japan. Gryphon and Vitus from Denmark. Soulution, CH precision, Goldmund, FM Acoustics from Swiss and Dan D'agostino, Boulder, Pass labs from our own mother land. Still plenty fishes in the sea. Happy Hunting :celebrate008_2:

Have to agree with Greg. Got all of my Accuphase stuff for really good prices (compared to list in the US) and am overjoyed with it. I love the look, the feel, and the sound. If you can find it for rational prices in the US, I highly recommend it. If at retail list, there are likely better buys out there.

And, this is my last post on high Accuphase prices. I will stipulate that fact for the record so we don’t have to go over it again.

it's just the normal distributor BS - raise prices artificially and then give huge discounts to make everyone feel better. ever wonder why Raidhos trade at 30 cents on the $? haha.

honestly I prefer the no discount manufacturers - cuts out the crap. better resale.

Much like the one price for all strategy that some car dealerships are trying to employ... not for me!
