Trenner & Friedl ART

Any owners here, any experiences to share? I wonder how these compare to Harbeth 3PSR or 30.1s?

3 years ago We'd them on test - superb resolution, 3D holographic soundstage and "crispy", well defined (upper) bass.

My polish is unfortunately not so good, so thank you for the review, but any chance to have it in English?

    Re: Trenner & Friedl ART

Marcin, I hope you don't mind. Chrome auto translates.

    Opinion 1
I do not know you, but I well remember the time when you have a thoroughbred, high-end monitors, or if you prefer stand-columns, was a dark object of desire and somehow determinant audiophile initiation. Of course, if you look at it from the side, quite objectively, it is certainly not so little effect on the above phenomenon had our housing conditions and wealth ... pocket. Never mind. Land that still fondly recall models such as the Acoustic Energy AE1, ESA Furioso, the Sonus Faber Electa Amator. There was something unusual and noble to is not in the eyes of your friends, but for the same holder, who won it with one hand, reached a kind of fulfillment while consciously decided on a compromise.

Today is "a little" differently. More is better, louder with the rest of it, and if a product is not mentioned - that is, it can not be seen virtually everywhere, it virtually does not exist. Fortunately, when skillfully as to filter out all the marketing noise, even for a moment forget about the card distributing the powerful (read corporate) you can find on the company and their products advertising megaphones Not To proclaim to all and sundry own uniqueness and genius. That this group we can successfully pass the Austrian factory of Trenner & Friedl. The existence founded by Andreas and Peter Friedl'a Trenner'a (explanation of the origin of the names we have from the head) in 1994. In Graz in-company probably also would not find out if my audio Wroclaw decided not to take care of their distribution presenting at last year's audio Show model of Ra, who just before the show, we had the pleasure of "basking" in the system of Jack .

Looking at the offer Trenner & Friedl see a truly Austrian passion for reliability, order and moderation. True, in the top, modular model Duke allowed himself a bit of madness, but in this particular case it was necessary intransigence founded this project. It should be noted, however, that the marketing model, which promotes Austrian designers rather drastically different from that with which we are dealing, unfortunately, every day. Now, instead of a proper large part of the competition desire to refresh their offer almost every year, which unlike staring at fashion designers to explain myself no way put on the longevity of our products, their longest life cycle, which is not enough that the action unquestionably ecologically, it Additionally, somewhat casually, it allows to compete for the title "classics". Logical pain, is not it? The only pity is that such logic is not common and instead of consumer electronics, cars and virtually everything around us is constructed so as to end his life after expiry of the guarantee.
But back to the hero of this test. ART. is the smallest and least expensive at the same time, which does not mean that cheap, model in the catalog of T & F, which in addition to find him still five other proposals columns. Although minuteness ART'ów (named in honor of Arta Peper'a) amazes even at this same unpacking their block is not in itself anything cheaper fragility, a derivative of cost cutting and product positioning attempts only by price and not the actual contribution of materials and his work on the their creation. Firstly, their dimensions are not random, this does not mean, however, that with adequate volume of the active chamber to allow proper operation of the transducer, because it can any program for DIY enthusiasts, but the inclusion of the so-called. golden ratio. Thus generated inside the enclosure standing waves are propagated in a wider spectrum, more uniformly, without harmful to conquer the narrow passages of the band.
Also the same quality of performance clearly indicates that we are dealing with something luxurious. Boxes casing made of multilayer panels covered with natural veneer and seven layers of lacquer, and the characteristic silky glossy front to sandwich Corian'u © and MDFu, wherein the finish is ensured by hand polishing. The result was achieved extremely pleasant variation on. "A vintage" native elegance of classical circles, the British monitors the BBC.
On the front we find only two, as is usually the simple two-way transducer systems - at the bottom 1 "ring Scanspeak R2604 / 832,000 and above him, aluminum 5", dating from the Prestige series Seas H1207-08 L12RCY / P. As can be seen in the context of modesty and minimalism abandoned even the manufacturer's logo, which can be found for it on the matte side of the back and is in a central, eye-catching place. The question of who, after setting and connecting columns will be there looked, the more that instead of dripping gold speaker terminals decided to typical screw terminals Cardas gently suggesting the preferred confection wiring (forks). Placed right next to the small diameter bass reflex, which can in some way be modeled by the following sets of setting them mouths BR outside or inside.
Viscera decided to no longer look, so I limit myself only to the memories of that performance switches commissioned well-known for its excellent quality components company Mundorf Germany and the entire internal cabling fell to the next audiophile specialist - Cardas Audio.
Because the weight of the heating delivered to the parks took the test on their shoulders Jacek, I had it easier because I could with a clear conscience critically assess them from the first minute in my system. I must admit that knowing ART'ów timeless design and their extremely compact size I equipped to advance in such a way dedicated to gabinetowo - as bed climates amplification - Leben'a CS-300F . The achieved result was not only a highly satisfying, but rather calmly could mean the end of the search for the holders of ten meters long listening rooms. Above-average space, far beyond the base determined by the spacing of the columns, which, as is usually the mini-monitors tend to have the first sounds underwent immediate dematerialisation, was only a foretaste of further experience. Precision in creating virtual sources also brazenly encroaching into areas reserved for far more expensive systems and the same volume generated by a charming Japanese - Austrian combo sound utterance into question the laws of physics, because at first glance it would be impossible to accuse ART'y with such a big heart to play. For the sake of explanation will mark another fairly important detail regarding the nature of the environmental conditions in which ART'om came to work on my system. Lacking adequate metric area for such a small room columns used them in the 21-meter room, which gently speaking, not their lives easier. There are also wanting a little to compensate for the ambient conditions forgave himself provided by Audio Philar Rogoz and audio stands, which, though considerably raised aesthetic qualities, but just in my room uszczuplały noticeably from the bottom of bandwidth. In the end monitorki landed hard as hell on the chest of drawers made of solid wood, which gently helped the lowest component is not degrading other sub-bands.Leben switching from the A-class Tellurium Q Iridium 20 (version 2) further raised the bar in terms of both "aeration" scene, and even engineering accuracy in conducting various lots of instruments and gradation plans. Fortunately, all the time was kept a safe distance from the analytic prosektoryjnej, which offer hyper accurate individual sounds somehow lost identical with the music commonly known as homogeneity ... musicality. Despite some as Jacek described "wyczynowości" amplification on the openness of the highest registers I have not found too much criticism at monitorków tested in their own notes. Maybe their smoothness and finesse could not be regarded as a reference, or even close to that to which accustomed me AMT implemented in my Gauderach, or what they can conjure up, for example. Definitely more expensive ribbon transducer, or diamond, but believe me - moving in the vicinity of 10 000 PLN difficult, and even physically (mainly just for financial reasons) it is impossible to come across certain structures without compromising sound. In this case, however, the compromise reached certainly the most painful not to be, especially if we take into account the fact that T & F are handmade in the Austrian headquarters of the manufacturer and as we know the cost of labor in those regions of the EU are not the lowest.
As we're at it compromises even mention only way of reproducing bass, from the first moments that attracts attention and surprising resilience, and a pretty good descent, but I would ask ART'ach do not expect the impossible. Lowest components can be enjoyed and the like, although if we realize that neither the double rate, or confusing progmetalowe passages contained eg. To "A Dramatic Turn of Events" Dream Theater will not have the power and the volume of what the full range of columns floor will be easier for us to just live with this sound. The same will be with great symphonic repertoire - "Adagio" Karajan for toddlers Austrian sounded delicious, but the weight of numerous instruments in dwudziestometrowym room was not given to me to feel. Attempts to force the monitorków to operate beyond their aggressiveness cause annoying sound combined with a loss of clarity diameter garde models for inducing the bass.
If, however, carefully adequately take care of both working conditions and the associated electronics are likely to achieve the audiophile nirvana will be extremely high. While listening alternately using digital sources (Ayon 1SC) and analog (Transrotor Zet 3) I could easily notice the ease with which opening offer T & F columns differentiate not only the quality of recordings, but the medium to which they are fed. If I could suggest something further, then choosing the rest of the track to at least suggest ART'ów source or amplification devices to choose from a group representing musical camp. Thanks to gain consistency and homogeneity of the media without losing its resolution of detail and, saving itself at the same pressure surges associated with sybilantami too intrusive or too sophisticated realization. For example - to the end of Tellurium desire podpiąłbym DACA / April Music Pre Eximus DP1 and the Leben creamy and thick like home candied player TRI TRV-CD4SE. Thanks to easily uzyskałbym above average pleasure of communing with sound extremely juicy, saturated and very nice for the listener and do not have to compromise associated with both the dynamics and resolution enabling comfortable listening repertoire strictly rock and wycyzelowanych, polished up audiophile implementation.
Searching for an analogy in the automotive field ART'y can be compared to such toys for big boys like Alfa Romeo Spider, the old version of the VW Sirocco, and Lotus Elise. What matters most of all fun, the joy of every listening ... and emotions accompanying him, there's no place for cool analysis, academic discussion whether something is good enough or not. In short, either the approach to the subject he loves and takes the whole benefit of inventory, or not, and continue chasing the bunny. Personally, looking for high-quality sound to kilkunastometrowego office even for a moment I would not over ART'ami wondered just put them on the monstrous walnut desk on granite slabs, he strapped the latest Leben and fed files. The problem is that I do not have takowego office, yet ...

Opinion 2High product - End'owy should be associated with reserved for the few quality audio playback. It is true that in recent times different with this case, but one thing is certain, it is the most monstrously overgrown gabarytowo proposals, putting this aspect as a dogma in the field. Race inflating construction is still going on, but fortunately (for many audiophiles), there are cases, referrals of all the forces on the first premise that I mentioned - the quality of play and the emission of acoustic waves. Everyone's needs are different sizes, one listener wants to set a large equipment room, looking for something different and sleek exquisite to a small office, communing with the assumption of outstanding devices. So far, most of the proposals we've tested the audio from the ceiling High End, were representatives of the mainstream, "the bigger the better," but the time has come for something remarkable with micro department. Information on quite "fresh" in our market tests proposed for small monitors, accepted (or rather my spine) with great relief, but I did not think that this baby will be competing in the featherweight. However, having tasted the older brothers of these packages (model RA) during the warm-up before the autumn casual and exhibition curiously arrived I put "columns" on target dorównujących standach their class performance. Ladies and gentlemen, I hasten to present to all seeking uncompromising playing with small columns, the Austrian brand Trenner & Friedl and starting a list of model ART products, distributed by the Wroclaw My Audio.

As mentioned in the previous paragraph, the model ART monitorki small, with quite unusual zaaplikowanymi speakers: mid-woofers on the top and bottom wysokotonówkami front wall. An interesting structural depth is greater than their height boxes. A derivative of the search litrażu structure forced low, barely mieszczącym both transducers front and back, to generate with the aid of the bass reflex port is located on the rear wall, declared 44 Hz in the lower frequency processing. Despite this, a little worried about the confirmation of the announcement of such a descent in the process of listening, and what came of it remains to be seen later in this description. Facilities columns in addition to supporting the tunnel bass response, received a beautifully engraved and silvered company logo, as well as a single speaker terminal Cardas. Small housing perfectly covered with natural veneer and contrast sandwich panels front and rear are finished in black: you have to reverse and obverse gloss. The information materials can read that to obtain the said front glamor, polished by hand, which in today, focused on maximum profit and age is rare. Plastic housing project: the color of the tree, black front and rear panels, fits nicely with the silver aluminum membrane niskotonowca, thus breaking the monotony of the most frequently viewed by the user view. Fortunately, there is provided faceplates, such as "candy" should dazzle with its beauty regardless of the whim of the buyer. Having contact with such tasteful visual product, it is impossible to fault anything - natural veneer combined with glossy black, with no major problems will be set in most of the listening rooms, including stylishly furnished offices. And from the perspective of several days communing with ART-ami, they seem to aim precisely in such premises require appropriate apparition. This is definitely a strong point of their tender, but will be in addition or instead of the main course, I did not neglect to check in the following paragraphs. It is said that size matters, but fortunately not always, and to prove it, you need a point of reference or study of construction of the product, otherwise, the whole observation does not make much sense. In other words, the transition from full band podłogówek on such small screens, require accommodation, as well as the effect of change in attitude on the final play. We can not require babies reaching depths of hell BASISK, too much room for them, only we evaluate the result of a compromise between the possibilities and the results achieved. Following this message started noncommittal repertoire Johanna Sebastiana Bacha from the series "Cafe Zimmermann." Not very heavy (lower registers) to play stringed instruments together with harpsichord showed a surprisingly positive installment Austrians. This very well made compilation, presented nicely arranged music scene in breadth and depth, positioning problems without all the musicians in the imaginary mind being a contractor. Initial concerns about the color which is my tailstock, proved to be unfounded, and although the metal (aluminum) speaker reproducing them, color was really high. Encouraged by the positive message of the scope, I changed the media, entering the world of analogue favorite. Heavily saturated, well-being outside of my columns insert LONDON AEC had to show what we can squeeze out of the characters on the plate and test my twin went Feickert signed by Ralpha Townera quartet, black cake in the ECM-Fri "Oregon". Climate change and musical style, even for a moment wavered initially developed quality brand position Trenner & Friedl. Yes, I agree with opponents that it is still quiet music, which teases plumkaniem call, but at the moment I checked what they have to offer the best, not figuring as one patient put unauthorized uppercut and it unawares. Thrash Heavy Metal is the domain of Martin, I would rather always try to grade the level of decibels implemented, but never forget, treat the patient more powerful sounds. Returning to the material Ralpha Townera, I was surprised such devotion temperature playing instruments: guitar, bass, sax, flute and drum set. Everything given was typical of analog and smooth color without any artificial balancing act podkolorowywania way. In favor of a very strong argument monitorkami listened, it was their complete disappearance from the room, which in theory is a feature of such structures, however, I do not always carries out, and here I had the classic show straight from the Davida Copperfielda show. Looking at the individual tuning frequency ranges, the diameter of the phenomenal, you could feel the openness perfectly tailored to the medium treble registers, which, despite the lack of spark my favorite, gave a feeling of breath. Amazingly so skilful at balancing the these two ranges, from time to time there were rumblings that at the beginning because of the dimensions did not expect to hear, and what is immediately directed my steps towards a more demanding repertoire plate. For such purposes I use artificially generated frequency and seeking batch of electronically produced low bass, I went back to numbers with the proposal Nilsa Pettera Molvaer entitled "Khmer". Here there was no leniency. The fact that we can play charmingly calm music, it is not the sole criterion for any speaker. Even with the assumptions and the appearance of "weaklings" should be able to cope with difficult material, of course, according to their system of construction and the distribution is always something we add to the play list listening. Said plate "kiler" showed some limitations of the test columns, but reasonable person seeing the product, expect some compromises. I mean the most important test in this move generated bass range. As I wrote at the beginning, we will not hear contour, hard and massage the bowels of the lower range, because it would be a violation of the laws of physics. Despite this, these columns showed, as you can in a reasonable way to pass on the disc lowest band components, while not falling into the artificial inflation inadequate to the size of the sound. Bass was soft, but not bułowaty, the large amount of information about its lowest registers. If someone borrowing the ART on the monitors, will reject them because of the lack of this range, it will not mean anything other than a lack of knowledge about basic issues of sound reproduction. These babies are directed to the listeners educated looking nietuzinkowości sound at small sizes. A reason to look for such a small transducer provides life very much, at least: a tiny little rooms of many music lovers, the desire to make a cabinet system, or wife categorical opposition to the full band columns floor. Further enumeration is unnecessary, because what the customer is another problem. Molvaer plate drew my attention in addition to the hitherto casually described aspect of the band. As for the upper range, which in light repertoire jumped in front of a number, but being sober, did not limit the freedom of playing, the electronics showed its face in a more sophisticated way. Artificially stimulated into existence in the virtual ether highs, usually discourage me to the music of such material after a few songs, while tuning the crossover by the Austrians allowed to eliminate this unpleasant stimulus from the process of listening. Such tempering of accretions cry high band like, and it is not easy to achieve, since frequently burial in one respect, totally changes the chart of another member. Who spoke with the designers, he knows what I mean. Here we have a skillful compromise to maintain the size and capabilities of their implementation. It so happened that during a test of the Austrian technical thought came to me the English department of engineering work to strengthen the signal and did not neglect to try the marriage of these two structures. The idea seemed to be all the more interesting, because my power amplifier fed the ART-s two hundred watt class AB and insular noble brand Tellurium issued 18-Watt A- OWA Single Ended class. Completely different schools of producing life-giving for the current column, allowed to compare, as you can easily optimize being so small columns through its doors. Due to the noble class "A", the new young couple got an hour to get acquainted and devotion through the oven Tellurium "Iridium 20" into the atmosphere necessary amount of energy transformed into heat. Insiders audiophiles know that such a structure should generate and issue the appropriate dose to the nature of its little economic effect of work before we can proceed to verify its capabilities. Having determined organoleptically standby state (hand-feel), I sat between the speakers. It was a different approach to music. Compared to the statement of my Japanese, this attempt to achieve synergy in the light went wyczynowość sound. Earlier analog perception of color, now it has become more pronounced and charged greater openness. All kind of readable and at your fingertips, but a little sharper than in that incarnation. The diameter of the top and vivid, with a greater amount of bass slightly loosened - only 18 db at 85 efficiency. I know that many listeners are like, but this configuration summoned arbitrarily do not want to evaluate any of these components, as the two unknowns (a few hours from a completely alien set, it is not enough for constructive conclusions) introduce too many variables. I decided on this move, only for you to visualize whether the wording of the columns is their constant mannerism, or just a consequence of this, and no other connection and English tip confirmed chameleon qualities of the Austrian parcels. Of course, despite the slight loosening of the bass, the quantity still fluctuated at levels you heard earlier, but even if we hooked directly to power, not Rub them guts contour and low-energy band, because they are not up to such tasks. It is an offer for a demanding and the knowing what he wants the listener that the appropriate selection of reinforcement, reward the beautiful playing.I am glad that column from Austria hit the two views signal amplification, as perfectly demonstrated their aspirations for a high shelf. Both sought to connect the quality of a slightly different way, but that's what most attracted us in the fun with the audio. The most important fact is that the whole time the sound in absolute terms was at a high level, and what the end result will choose the buyer, will have its own distinctive set of experiences and needs. However, the monitors reported marki Trenner & Friedl ART model, fully deserve to be pulling on their list of the listening, assuming no demands of them impossible. Unfortunately, sometimes nieosłuchani prospective buyers require too much and the spectacular zawiedzeniu, honk of the whole world. This can not be avoided, but the tests are carried out to outline the specifics of the pre-product, and only a few descriptions of the analysis should be a contribution to the decision wypożyczeniowej. If dysponowałbym small, 10-15 meter listening room and I would look for something with a high level of sound, with a very good coefficient of WAF, without hesitation zakosztowałbym model ART. But the decision belongs to the state.Ps. When the test came to an end, the distributor could still provide a dedicated stand. Came from Katowice manufactured by Rogoz Audio stands - model 4QB80, is specially designed after consultation with the manufacturer columns, complementary effect the final audio product where all the parameters - dimensions (H. W. D.) And weight, they provide the best of his quality . It is true that I no longer had the tip of Tellurium Q, but I did not neglect to check how does their (product Rogoz Audio Trenner & Friedl) cooperation on your system, and one can say for sure - these little lighter from the initial phase of the test structures - had previously been massive from the company audio Philar, put a little peace in the reproduction of musical material, which once again showed the sense of the ground for the proper selection of components that emit sound. Dedicated pedestals visually interact very well with small size columns, supporting them zlicowanymi the outline of the legs and the upper and lower base. It looks very elegant, without making sense of heaviness design skilfully exposed the advantages of perception Austrian-Polish tandem. After initial fears when unpacking the stands, I conclude that the effect of organoleptic evaluation kit fell really fantastic. It is obvious that the gentlemen found the thread of understanding the findings of the project, which will definitely have a positive impact on the purchase decision of a potential customer.

    Re: Trenner & Friedl ART

I did extended listening at a couple of audio shows and was very impressed (possible conflict of interest, I've known the US distributor most of my life).

    Trenner & Friedl ART

Today I spent ample time with the T&R ART, paired with components I know (Lavardin IT amp, Melco NAS serving the music). Environment was rather neutral and there was ample room in all directions.

The Good: Phantastic imaging, great details, puts out good bass for the size.

The bad: It is a very small LS and it sounds like a very small LS. Frequencies were kinda there, but it was a bit like listening to a car stereo - very good one though. Dimensionality of the music was completely lacking.

Does not come even close to Harbeth 3PSRs on proper stands.

Well, after I thanked the dealer for the demo and we moved on to other stuff, he confessed that they're not sure about the ART either and that they are going to drop them Trenner & Friedl ART.

    Nice sales effort though.

PS: They are good though, if you love details but don't care for the music so much.

I see they're Euro 3.5k in Germany, more than the ATC SCM19 V2 go for; paired with a meaty amp the ATCs would obliterate these overpriced toy speakers.

Currently I am happy with the 3PSRs, but it it is not a simple task to find the next step up from there.

Well, I don't form my opinions based on YouTube videos. I actually audition stuff for real, as I did today (the video does not play btw). At a previous listening at a show the advantages came out quite nicely, but only a proper audition revealed the weaknesses.

And as said, some things they did well, other things they did not. Great details and imaging, but no depth and the imaging was flat. They are a very small LS and sounded like a very small LS. Nothing wrong with that, I just want more.

Maybe you need a better car?

The video plays fine for me, I perfectly understand personal auditions at home or at a dealer are the only way to go (yes I´ve been to audio shows and dealers, definitely not as many as I would´ve liked) but some of us don´t have the luxury of living in a place where such auditions can be made or travelling to make them, so whenever you guys talk about gear all I can do is read about it and listen online to get an idea about the sound. It is my opinion that if some speaker sounds good on a Youtube video (most don´t) through headphones and a laptop, it will most likely sound much better in real life, the Art´s in the video I posted sound fantastic and nowhere near car stereo territory or the sound you were describing. Your experience and opinion are certainly more qualified than mine but that doesn´t mean your taste is.
No, I don´t need a better car but I do want one

Just to provide another example, I´d never heard your Harbeth P3ESR so I went out to my dealer U Tube Audio at WWW and auditioned them in several rooms, in this one they sound wonderful, I understand why you have them in such high regard and at €1500 less than the Art´s they´re an extremely high value proposition.

I see it exactly that way. My opinion is also just one end-user's view and as such no better than others. Maybe I wished for more, but otherwise I just followed up on a thread I started.

My plan was actually to take them home for a proper test run but I did not feel the desire to do so. With the Harbeths I did, and listened to them for several days with great pleasure while the Magicos sat idle Trenner & Friedl ART.

For people who mostly focus on details the ARTs are perfect. I was just in addition looking for a slightly more spatial experience.

I think the 3PSRs are good, but there still might be better ones. That's why I tested the ARTs. Interestingly enough, I also tested the next bigger Harbeths and they were not at all to my liking, sounded muddled compared to the ARTs.

There probably is better than the Harbeth´s but at what price? Would it be a clear step forward or just a side step? When monitors get into good floorstander territory price wise I find it less easy to justify the cost. Speaking of which I´m excited to hear what Andrew Jones and Elac come out with in their "cost no object" Adante line of speakers, Mr. Jones is a price to performance wizard so they should be really good.

I have had the Art's for a few years now. They've bettered many well-regarded monitors that have come and gone including Focal 1038 BE's, Reference 3A De Capo BE's, Lawrence Audio Violin's and Usher BE-718's. Highly recommended!!

The W5's are compared to the Art's in this great review:

I think the point here is not whether the ART is great or not, it's rather that I am maybe looking for a LS in another league.

One currently intriguing me is the Gauder Akustik Berlina RC3.

    Re: Trenner & Friedl ART

Just wanted to chime in as I myself have recently acquired the Trenner + Friedl Arts for a few months now. They are incredibly detailed but not analytical in anyway, there's a wonderful coherence and smoothness that I love about them. Very natural sounding and non-fatiguing. They go incredibly low for their size, but of course won't move as much air as larger speakers. I think these perform at the top among the small monitors, so perhaps you are looking for qualities that only bigger woofers can provide.

Its funny, the last speakers I had were the Reference de capo be's as well! They were great too - so dynamic and had awesome depth and a romantic midrange. Too bad they're not the most attractive speaker, and they're a bit colored.

I agree, this is exactly what I have concluded. There is only so much air the small woofer can move.
