    Cartridges.

It depends on lot on the arm that is being used. I used to own a Lyra Dorian when it was worn out I bough a 2nd hand Dynavector Te Kaitora Rua. For my next cart I would really like a van den Hul the Crimson. But I'm afraid I'll never can own one. Mr van den Hul is getting really old. When he dies a lot of knowledge will get lost. He is one of the very few "old masters" still alive.

But Ikeda, Koetsu, ZYX and many more also have great carts.

The 'hot' AT is currently their ART-9 which is getting a lot buzz (no pun intended). It's currently sold in the US for ~$930 and many users are comparing it favorably to other cartridges up to the $5K range! There's an ongoing thread about it over on the Audiogon forums.

Re: Top Tier Cartridges, Sleepers and Amazing Values

I have readed the post about Audiogon.
I'm agree with this in the post :
"Its everything I liked about the OC9-mk III, but it goes far beyond the OC-9 in every respect".
I have bought this AT-OC9 ML III (if I can't found my post on this forum).
I have 2 AT-ART9 now. One for my VPI Classic 3(1 year for my cartridge) and one for my Technics SL-1210 MK II(1 month for the cartridge and perhaps 30 year's old for my SL-1210 MK II).

But I think ART9 is more neutral than OC9 ML III.
OC9 ML III : more medium ( I would say more medium for voices)
ART 9 : better than OC9 ML III in treble, bass, extrem treble and extrem bass...

And the sound about the two turntables ?
I prefer listen electronic music with my Technics like Kygo or Jean-Michel Jarre...
Cables, you can see is Van Den Hul.

I prefer listen Jazz, OST, Pop, Rnb, Disco with my VPI.

I can say if this ART9 is better than cartridge over 5000$...
In France, price paid is : 1100 Euros including Taxes (20%) so, perhaps the same price in the USA ? 930 $ with taxes ?

    With the ART 9, I have a tri-dimensional sound.

That's great news Shane, thanks for sharing. Looks like a well built cartridge especially for the money. Is this a conical stylus profile?

edit: found the specs on the AT site: Elliptical stylus chip and hard duralumin cantilever

Hi, would anyone please identify this cartridge for me? I bought it years ago, when I was listening to my vinyls, but my hearing is poor now. I'd love to sell it if I can. I believe it is a moving coil. I had a Linn, but it's long gone and this was in a drawer for a long time. Thanks,
    peace, Richard

Richard - Welcome to AudioShark! To help you identify the cartridge we need a more detailed description and hopefully pictures of it. Glad to try to be of assistance. As a general rule cartridge suspensions age even if they have low running hours but are many years old, so its value may be impacted if it requires a rebuild.

ART-9 is one of those very rare cartridges which can stop you from looking further and that even on a healthy $30-40k analog front end.

Re: Top Tier Cartridges, Sleepers and Amazing Values

Denon DL-S1. pulled this out of the cartridge draw. Legendary top of range Denon cartridge for a long time - now discontinued. If you have a phono stage that can handle the 0.15mv, it's hard to find a more detailed cartridge presented in a slightly laid back manner - for under 1k - absolute bargin.

Re: Top Tier Cartridges, Sleepers and Amazing Values

I have an Empire Troubadour II turntable that needs a new cartridge. I have it paired with an Onkyo 8555 receiver and a Martin Logan 15 bookshelf speakers. Any suggestions for a new cartridge, (MM), for $100 - $300?
