    Turntable Shelf

I'm thinking about getting a turntable shelf since my listening room has a subfloor.

    Any recommendations?

When someone mentions a shelf to me I vision a supported platform held in place on a wall with brackets. Your not thinking of trusting your Kronos to a shelf are you ?

I am, but I would have it 1/2 inch above a proper shelf - just in case.

Why not? This is a tried and trusted method of truly isolating a table from floor-borne vibrations . Contrary to popular belief , the Kronos is NOT immune to floor vibrations . Something like this works a treat & will support 140 lbs.

Alternatively, I've had good results with a Vibraplane but they're as ugly as sin , might upset Mike's delicate sensibilities....

    What about Wall Vibrations?
My walls all vibrate due to 2 Radon Fans attached to the outside of my house.

    Re: Turntable Shelf

Well from my experience and I had a room just like Mikes, unless the wall is an exterior wall your going to get vibrations on an interior wall unless the interior wall was a load bering wall and was poured. Our exterior walls, were block, rebar and poured concrete top to bottom. But I see Mikes objective. Maybe be a solid wall shelf with an isolation platform will do the trick. Ps: anything is worth a try. No harm no foul

How about hanging it from the ceiling? Might be an interesting experiment. Though, could be ugly I suppose.

I did that once with a Thorens table I had many years ago. I hated it. The table swung more than a bisexual at an orgy.

+1 Yes you could cable suspend a Quadraspire shelf and place an isolation platform on top of that. You need thick cable to minimise swing and it has to be tensioned exactly.

I use a Minus K and could not be more pleased. It eliminates all floor born noise. Not sure if it works well with a suspended table though.

    Mike,
if this is for the kronos, why anything other than Louis' dedicated kronos stand?
Lots of conflicting notions of whether it makes sense to isolate suspended tables. If the designer created a stand, Louis likely had a tech/SQ reason for it. I'd suggest asking him. He knows your house/room and setup.

I personally use a BM-8 with a Clearaudio Master Solution. I can hit the furniture the turntable is sitting on and won't hear anything through the needle, at any SPL. The Minus K brought the noise level down significantly from what it was before.

My review from a while back:
