    H300 Transformer Hum

Does your H300 have an intermittent angry-bee transformer hum?

It's intermittent on mine and it's very annoying. Never had this noise on my previous Arcam amp that was plugged into the same socket. I love the Hegel sound, and want to move up the ladder, but if higher end Hegel products are susceptible to this, it's a bit discouraging...

    Video here of the noise:

    Re: H300 Transformer Hum

Hum could be caused by DC on the AC line. I had some amps that were more easily susceptible to transformer hum than others. A PS Audio Humbuster III or similar took care of the issue.

    Re: H300 Transformer Hum

Years ago I had a pair of Motif MS100 (CJ built) power amplifiers that exhibited a similar transformer buzz/hum. Mine was an intermittent issue. I tracked it down to interference on the A/C line whenever my wife ran her hair dryer on low (running it on high did not cause it) or when the toaster oven was being used.

Since my listening room is in the basement, it took months for me to make this correlation.

Is your problem intermittent or constant?

Good luck tracking down your issue!

    Re: H300 Transformer Hum

If the problem is DC voltage on your AC line, Audio by Van Alstine makes the AVA HumDinger to address the issue. It's a reasonable $140 and I believe that they sell it with a money back guarantee. I know of several users that have found it to resolve their similar issues with humming transformers so it could be worth a try.

Thank you for the suggestion. I placed an order for the "emotive cmx-2" which claims to perform the same function. Hopefully it does the trick, otherwise I'll try the humdinger.

I have 2 of the Emotiva CMX-2's and they work superbly too. Let us know if it solves your issues.

Wow. Wow. Wow. With the Emotiva CMX-2, the transformer is DEAD quiet. Problem solved.

What a bargain in the audio world. More than that, Emotiva is having a holiday sale right now, so it's even cheaper. I just purchased a second one.

    Awesome!

That's it! DC on the AC line. It seems pretty typical and I am glad you solved the problem. Thank you for the update.
