Re: MicroMega M1 - The New Devialet?

Renewed interest in this; did I just read, it won best in show somewhere...paired with Sopra 2s?

At 100/200, and 150/300 respectively...the 100 is clearly akin to the D120, and 150 the D200; but 3 and 4k Euro. If they hit that price point...right now, that would be ~$3300 and ~$4400.

That makes the 150, a real competitor to the 200; what is that...half the price?

Re: MicroMega M1 - The New Devialet?

It looks like an interesting product. But it is Class D only? Also, I'm sure it lacks technology similar to SAM and the immense configurability of the Devialet (see: Devialet Configurator). When you see the advancements in the Devialet Configurator for the phonostage and matching the phonostage parameters EXACTLY to your cartridge, it's amazing, among all the other ways you can configure the Devialet to suit your needs.

But I still think what makes the Devialet unique is the combination of Class A and Class D. The fact that Devialet has tens of millions of dollars behind them for R&D is also a plus.

I do like the look of the M1. Nice styling and loads of inputs. But, the jury is out. The proof is in the pudding as they say. Let's wait to see it in real life situations.

Re: MicroMega M1 - The New Devialet?

    Mike,

I agree with all the points you make and the proof is certainly in the listening. Still, at the price points the M1s could have wide appeal to those who do not need all the flexibility and features of the Devialet but really like the concept.

I do not need a phono input and there is no SAM for my speakers (yet?). My decisions would be made on sonic performance with cost only being a factor if performance was close. But others would be forced to make decisions based upon budget limitations. I am just throwing my needs out as an example of possible situations. I think many would find the prices and features attractive. We are obviously already making comparisons between the two brands. And the M1s come in colors.

And not to take away from the Devialet; may be, they're shaping up...to be slightly different animals.

But +1, to all of Dizzie's bolded points.
