Re: Any members here own a CJ Classic Sixty EL-34 amp?
Joe,
I owned an MV-55 that was the precursor to the MV-60 & Classic Sixty. My understanding is that they really refined the amp along the way through the various models that followed the MV-55. The MV-55 was beautiful sounding!....but had a limit that I could not live with. It played superbly with several different pairs of loudspeakers at Mid-level volumes (70-85db). I do almost 90% of my listening well below that window and 10% above that range. The MV-55 just didn't have the detail and resolution nor punch at the lower level volumes (58db-70db) and it started to get loose in the bass around 85db. With anything above 85db it lost steam really quick. I believe the advances in the MV-60 and Classic addressed the loose base issue?
I ended up finding that solid state amps do better for my kind of listening so that's where I've headed for now. However, that middle range for volume with the MV-55 was glorious and addictive!
Have fun!Avanti Audio

Re: Any members here own a CJ Classic Sixty EL-34 amp?
Thanks Mike. I had the MV-60, bought used on Audiogon. It was a little more beat up than I was told but sounded nice. I am thinking the new Classic Sixty (EL-34) for fun, not critical listening. I love my CJ gear and thought this might be nice.
I have been recommended a Primaluna HP with EL-34's also. That may seem more logical because of auto bias and more protections built into the amp, plus a possibly longer tube life. I'm still thinking.Fleetwood Deville by Oswald Mills Audio, Vienna Acoustics Haydn Jubilee, Wharfedale Linton w/ stands, Klipsch RB-75, Klipsch RP-160M.

Re: Any members here own a CJ Classic Sixty EL-34 amp?
Joe, I haven't heard CJ gear but the PrimaLuna HP gear I highly recommend, as with the true bypass in the integrated you can also use any pre-amp with it & that has made my mind up that I will never buy another integrated without this capability. I am really missing my Dialogue HP, they punch way above their weight.
