What subwoofer brand should we consider carrying?

Velodyne has changed distribution in Canada and I believe we will no longer be carrying this brand. What sub brands do you recommend we consider? Note: JL Audio is out as there seems to be a lot of representation of this brand in our area. Thoughts? REL, etc? We're primarily a 2-channel dealer, but we do some multi-channel systems as well. Thanks.

You should definitely consider the Paradigm Sub 1 and Sub 2.

    They are great subwoofers.

I just bought some REL Zero subs for my kids and home office. Amazing value and greatest yet I have seen at integrating at same time with 2 channel music and HT (LFE input at same time as neutrik speaker connection).

Re: What subwoofer brand should we consider carrying?

REL seems like a good prospect, but I'd have to import from the UK. It doesn't look like there is a Canadian or North American distributor anymore. Thanks GaryProtein for the Paradigm sub recommendation, but I'm looking for a subwoofer brand, not a full blown speaker brand and there is a Paradigm dealer already in my area.

Re: What subwoofer brand should we consider carrying?

It appears that insteading of distributing REL, Sumiko is now selling their own subwoofers made in partnership with Sonus Faber. Though Music Direct is still getting them from somewhere. Maybe they have become the new distributors.

Re: What subwoofer brand should we consider carrying?

Thanks rbbert. Haven't heard of that one before. Jack, I noticed the same thing as Sumiko used to be the REL distributor in North America. Perhaps Music Direct is just buying directly as a dealer through REL in the UK. Or, perhaps they got their stock from Sumiko before the change and still have a lot of inventory. Hard to know.

Re: What subwoofer brand should we consider carrying?

REL are the easiest to integrate into a 2 ch system. Only one better is the Wilson watch dog and Thor subs. But they are 3-10 times the REL most expensive sub.

Re: What subwoofer brand should we consider carrying?

I realize you said you're looking for a subwoofer only company, but if you would consider the Martin Logan line (depending upon their current availability already in your area) their subs are exceptional performers. They have to be extremely clean and fast to match well with their electrostatic speakers. Stereophile recently reviewed one of them here for your reference.

Yes second the Martin Logan line. And good speakers too.
Industry disclaimer: I am a dealer of D'Agostino Electronics, Wilson Audio, McIntosh, Devialet, KEF, Magnepan, Martin Logan, Wadia PMC, Nordost, VPI, Spatial speakers, Audeze, Wyred 4 Sound etc, so anything I say related to Audio/Video is most likely biased...not that there's anything wrong with that!

I agree with Martin Logan, REL and JL. Martin Logan subs are often overlooked. They are very musical, tight and fast. Even the lower models like the Martin Logan Dynamo 700 and 1000 sound great.
