I always liked plasma vs LED from what I've seen in the stores. The plasma picture just seems clearer to me.

Ha, you reminded me of the poor delivery guys from best buy when they delivered my first LCD tv for my ht system in the basement. They had to remove perhaps one of the biggest heaviest CRTs ever made, a sony 40 incher, and carry it up 6 narrow steps into the garage. Man, they weren't happy, lol. Just got rid of my last big heavy CRT, a sony 36 incher, from the den.

Re: Sony and Panasonic Scuttle OLED Effort | Latest Industry News on OLED Technology
OLED is a completely different animal, but I've been saying that for the last 10 years or so, since it was introduced at CES. And it doesn't seem to be any closer to making it to the consumer market.
Plasma is still the best choice for great picture quality in darker rooms, but LED seems to be running away from the competition right now. Price, primarily.

Re: Sony and Panasonic Scuttle OLED Effort | Latest Industry News on OLED Technology
I know that videophiles all believe that plasma is much better, but put me firmly in the LCD camp. I have never seen a plasma that wasn't soft and/or washed out. I much prefer a good LCD picture with detail and pop, even with its inherent flaws (motion issues, poor viewing angles, etc). The plasma vs LCD wars have been raging on for years, with purists and techies always voting for plasma, but the general public always buying tons more lcds based on what they see with their eyes. Plasma apologists always say that plasma colors are much "truer" and closer to reality, and that's what the uneducated buying public doesn't appreciate. I say hogwash, it's just a dull picture that few people want to put their money out for. Is it a surprise that plasma has almost completely died off, totally replaced by LCD? I think not! You are correct about LCD. That is why the picture is described as "cartoonish". Nothing wrong with that for cartoons, or Speed Racer type movies, but sometimes you want to see a movie as it was intended. If you go by what the general public wants then throw away any audiophile gear.

I still have a Panasonic Gaoo 31" CRT tube TV (in the basement) and she weighs 168 pounds!
A flat panel HDTV 65" now weighs approximatively only 60 pounds (the lightest models).
And when we'll get those few millimeters screens that you can bend they'll weigh less than a pound! ...Few ounces.
- The electronic circuit boards and connector jacks are from a small separate box.

Plasma vs LCD LED => LCDs have a uniformity issue. ...And blurring moving action. ...And restricted viewing area.
Plasmas are the choice of videophiles, LCD LEDs are the choice of the masses (mass market, ...for the less educated).
As for brightness, they both are bright enough, even plasma ones during daytime watching.
And for 3D, LCD LEDs are brighter (better). And 3D active is better than 3D passive (Active = no vertical black moving lines, and full screen's resolution).
And the latest Panasonic plasma (ST60 - GT60 - VT60 - & ZT-60 Series) HDTVs are amazing; picture quality and value wise.
So are the Samsung plasmas. And now Samsung will become the main leader in plasma HDTVs (this is Panasonic's plasma last month into production).
Pioneer Elite plasma Kuros? ...The latest plasmas from Panasonic (VT & ZT Series) now have equal or better black levels.
And everything else much better than the Kuros. Plus 3D, plus larger size, plus less money, plus better color accuracy, plus streaming, plus gesture & voice controlled, plus skype, plus plus plus +++ ...
OLED? ...Well, it seems that we are having a delay.~ Bob ~
