Joe, My grandmother loved that song. She loosened up in her final years and used to sing it. Here is another memory.

How weird. I don't know why I opened this thread, but we've just come back from an Italian wine meetup at a great restaurant in Glen Cove Long Island (Tappo), run by a Sorrento native. Had great food and great wine, and we will be going back. So my Brooklyn born Italian wife is saying how much she loves her Italian roots, and I open this thread, mention the songs you guys posted, and she says oh wow, she also grew up with Oh Marie and Eh Cumpari. Funny thing. Just sharin...

I am second generation Italian. I grew up with my grandparents who never spoke English. Now, all of that generation is gone and I've seen some of my mother's generation pass on. It's a sad thing because we, Italian Americans, are losing much of what's left of our heritage and culture. The generation of immigrants who came here in the first part of the 20th Century, were courageous adventurers, who left everything they had in order to make a better life for their family.

    +1

Bruce, I think we may be brothers. I remember as a kid my Aunt would talk with both (broken) English words and Italian words. I knew what she was trying to say but never the actual words. My grandparents spoke no English but I knew what was going on.
