Mahler: Symphony No. 4 - Ivan Fisher : Budapest Festival Orchestra

Ivan Fischer writes of Mahler's masterpiece, "There is a unique purity and transparency in Mahler's 4th Symphony. The enchanting sleigh bells take us to his inner child, to his dreams of angels, fairy tales, angst and pure, divine love. This child-like symphony needed a different orchestra: no dark tuba, no heavy trombones, no large arsenal of massive brass. A chamber orchestra in fact, where the clarinets act as mock trumpets, the solo violin tunes his strings sharper in order to scare us and the lightness of the whole orchestra lifts us up to his lovely, childish vision of paradise."

I'm simply in love with this music.
More pure and raw emotions is hard to achieve I think.
2 viola da gambas only, but boy, what do they convey!

This is heavenly music, and in heavy rotation here.
Excellently sung, it includes 3 world premiere recordings.

    This is a lovely box.
It has 6 CD's with Bach's Overtures, Brandenburger Concertos, Harpsichord Concertos, Violin Concertos, Oboe Concertos.
All this is played marvelously, and very well recorded too.
    A big thumbs up!

I've been listening a lot to Shostakovich the last months.
This is the first album in a series of SACD's that covers the complete string quartets.
A good way to dip into his very special world. Sounds good to!

Schubert's String Quartet for me is one of the most beautiful pieces of chamber music ever written.
The Tokyo String Quartet plays it in a subtle, delicious way.
The adagio is another goose bumps piece (like the one Julian posted above).

...In particular Chopin's music. ...Just click on the picture cover for music samples.

    * Dynamic, yes it is! ...You have some of the lowest and highest notes here from the piano. ...And some very delicate passages, and others tumultuous.
We all know this "audiophile" recording, but to revisit it in the moment present is to live it in the now. ...With verve and delicacy at the same time. ...Being impregnated from Liszt music by Nojima's interpretation/playing with pure magic intensity of both extremes.

Re: Classical Music Only | What You're Listening to Now, Or Very Recently | Any Mediums :

Paul, there is always a hidden link behind all my pictures (except for that last one above).

I am doing that because I want to provide the reader super quick access to info, samples, reviews, on the picture referred to.
This is no advertising, it's real info that could be very useful to all.
I do that with all my music listening, and movies watching.
...And sometimes I do too with audio gear, and if enough people want to know the origin of the photographs I post (from the thread you started yourself), I would do that too.

At another site I wasn't allowed to do that; you know that site.

The sad thing is that the majority of people don't even know about it; so I have to remind newer members constantly, and even then, it escapes a lot of them.

Hey, someone is listening to some great music right now, and he's sharing it with us all by posting the picture cover of the album, or CD. ...Cool, but even cooler if you can click on that picture cover and it brings you additional info on the artist, his background, his biography, discography, and free music samples of the album's tunes.
That, is complete info in my book, or at least much more than just a pretty cover.

I also usually give my personal opinion, in just few words or more.
If I am on the Internet to communicate with friends, might as well give them the full suitcase.
