New Turntable
I purchased a Sota Star and it arrived last Wednesday. It has been refurbished to Series 3 but not sure when. I have had my eye on these tables for a while now and this one was a deal I couldn't pass up. Other responsibilities precluded me from getting it set up and running until today. I installed my SME M2-9 and SoundSmith Aida that was on my Thorens and all I can say is Wow! The difference is night and day. I played a few of my reference records tonight and everything is just better. It has a nice cherry plinth and is in very good condition. Setting up the suspension was pretty easy compared to the Thorens. So far, I am very pleased.

Re: New Turntable
Congrats on your new SOTA Star table! If you'd be so kind to share, what is the long haired brush towards the front left of the table? TIA!
Edit - No need to respond, I think I found the brush here.

Re: New Turntable
Nice acquisition. My first high-end table was a Sota (ca '86) I bought a Sapphire and within a few months traded up to a Star. They were way ahead of their contemporaries, it was the only 'table then with an inverted sapphire bearing, hanging suspension, high-mass lead-lined platter with an integrated acrylic mat and vacuum hold down. Had I stopped right there and not succumbed to upgraditis it would have saved me a bundle. I still rank the Star highly and it wouldnt be out of place in a high five figure+ system.

Re: New Turntable
Nice. I would have a Sota but when I was shopping I didn't have space for a table that size. Congrats

Re: New Turntable
I am hoping it will be my last...lol
I got really luck, it is in great shape and I got it for an extremely sweet price.
It is quite a bit larger than my Thorens. I had to change the top shelf on my rack a little to accomodate it. It is very heavy as well, something like 45 pounds.Amplification: BAT VK-3i, BAT VK-200

I've got a Nova with same wood finish and exactly the same arm. Running some modified Dynavectors K23's and a Stanton 881S with a new mk2 stylus. My last turntable. Better then I ever expected.
Enjoy mate. Looks great, well, as great as mine
