We feature over 130,000 albums (about 2 million tracks) in high resolution available for streaming and download. This is on top of the 40 million 16-bit/44-kHz full resolution cuts.

As long as it isn't like cable TV where you have hundreds of channels, and there isn't anything worth watching.

I like that these guys also sell what they stream, which is important when the network is down for some reason.

It will be interesting to see how the pricing for high-res downloads compares to HDTracks. I also like that you can listen to an entire recording before purchase, unlike HDTracks snippet preview.

Re: Qubuz in the USA is just around the corner.

I’m interested, Tidal works but not jumping over joy with it as it’s focus is not my first, second, third...choice

Now that I now how to properly say it’s name, I’ll get it and probably run both for a bit.

Looking forward to hearing more at RMAF 2018.

    I run both.
Tidal has some (but only a few) pop tracks not available via Qobuz.
Qobuz (I have the hi-res subscription) is truly excellent for jazz, blues, world music and classical.
In the future, I might choose to drop Tidal.

Re: Qubuz in the USA is just around the corner.

for those using quobuz with a stand-alone dac, how have you implemented streaming? also, how are you controlling quobuz streaming?

i see there is audirvana+ integration, however, best i can tell there is and will be no roon integration. i also see quobuz integration with a variety of network players such as lumin, etc. however, i am just curious as to solutions others here have used for their stand-alone dac.

finally, going on the sublime+ pricing in the UK, it would be twice the cost here in the US as tidal -- are you finding the quobuz hi-rez streaming experience worth this premium?

    As for Roon: https://community.roonlabs.com/t/is-...8/510?u=drtone

Pricing won't be a straight currency conversion from pounds.

Unless Roon signed an exclusive deal with tidal, I suspect it won’t be long before they strike a deal after entering the us market. I hope so, as I have a lifetime subscription to Roon.

Super excited though. My family likes tidal more than I do. I like it just fine, but I’m not crazy about it - so competition is good.

    Indeed.
I guess they will follow the example of Tidal: 20€, 20$, 20£ per month!
Qobuz Sublime is also 20£, 20€ per month.
For Sublime + you pay a premium, but you have access to an ever growing hi-res catalogue.
Many hi-res albums easily best my CD versions (might be because of a better remaster, but still).
Mind you, for now, I'm streaming via a Chromecast Audio device of 39€...

Re: Qubuz in the USA is just around the corner.

I have read elsewhere that its unlikely Roon will integrate Qobuz in their offerings because Qobuz has plans to be in direct competition with Roon. In other words it would be a little like Roon and Audirvana getting together. All these companies have various plans for growing into other areas so they won't always look like they look today. I LOVE Qobuz (pronounced Ko-buzz) and of course there are people (cough cough) who have it here and just use a VPN.

Actually it was true as of Feb 2017 Qobuz / Roon integration was not happening. However, things may have changed. Now we get a hint:

    https://www.computeraudiophile.com/f...comment-852460

From David @ Qobuz responding to Roon integration
By the time we launch, you will be very happy. I wish I could say more right now, but have been sworn to secrecy... You may be able to read between the lines, but for now, all I can say is that I totally agree.

Based on Official Qobuz Issues Thread on Computer Audiophile it seems it is scheduled for sometime in 4qtr.

The names collected on the site will all be contacted now that it is a certainty. Thanks for the note. Tried tonight, streaming still not active. Looks like you can purchase and download files. FYI, It did F with my server when I loaded it there a few weeks ago. I uninstalled it and shut down then restarted to get HQ player working again. It seems to take over the outputting device of the computer.

Based on some comments on the CA thread it might have support for Roon. If you use HQPlayer Embedded you can streM Qobuz using DLNA/UPnP functionality, which worked for me without any issues when I tried the eval version.

Let me know if you want to try that setup or have questions about it.

I changed my passwords and added 2nd form of authentication to my Paypal account as soon as I realized what I had done to avoid any fraudulent charges.

Other folks had done something similar and when Qobuz initially came out some folks were even able to just contact support and they got added with address of New France or something similar.

Nope, not going to Rocky Mountain. I might attend CAF and NYAS. NYAS is only an hr or so away from home so I might go to that one, but I have not ruled out CAS yet.

Sorry, forgot to respond to your question about DNLA/UPnP setup for HQPlayer.

Depending on your comfort level with Linux you can roll your own install of either Debian Stretch or Ubuntu Server or just use the HQPe image and write it to the usb flash drive and boot your system. It is pre-configured for UPnP support. If you want further information feel free to give me a buzz.

Thanks but I use Win Server 2016. I also have a second boot for Win 7 with J River but that is far inferior in sound quality. I may have a Linux Boot in the future but that is a few month out. I am in not rush. I have lots of music to listen too. Thanks again.

That’s what I’ve heard too. What Hi-Fi is in the UK, wonder why they felt Tidal HI-FI sounded better?

I did not know tidal had anything Beyer than Redbook. I though they were saying at 16,44.1 tidal was better. At 24/96 or higher Qboz was better. Do I not know what formats are available on Tidal?

My point being, they did not talk about using an MQA dac in the article. I don't have an MQA dac. That means I get nothing better than 16/44.1 with my system using Tidal. They did test higher resolution files.

Anyway about it, it launces in the USA in a couple days, Correct? We can all take on the free trial and see if we like the sound and the library.

What if Tidal MQA sounds better than Qobuz high res or visa versa? Hmmm...this should be fun.

Based on the comment posted by Paul on PS Audio Forum and also by Chris on Computeraudiophile it seems the official launch is delayed. Qobuz might have eval codes available for you to try similar to what they had done for CEDIA. The CEDIA eval code was for 3 months.

I downloaded it via vpn and have had it for about a week now. On average, the SQ is much better than Tidal to my ear and on my system. If I can ween the family from Tidal, I'm gone (even before the Roon integration, which I hope will happen soon).

Re: Qubuz in the USA is just around the corner.

I'm not going to do any fancy mumbo-jumbo to get it running on my server. When it's out in the US I will try it. But let us not forget how important software is. Even the operating system in our computer affects the playback. Roon is known for their play back. It is generally touted as much better than jriver based upon all the work they've done with their software. Maybe Qobuz has a very good set of software behind it. It would be interesting to know if the people experiencing Qobuz and prefer it better than Tidale0 are playing Tidal through Tidal or through their roon app and more importantly through Roon with hq player operating.

Re: Qubuz in the USA is just around the corner.

There is a good discussion here https://www.psaudio.com/pauls-posts/...at-the-source/

Cookie Marenco, of Blue Coast Records, describes the dizzying array of factors that can go into what kind of sq you will get from streaming It mostly comes down to the quality of the mastering and whether that mastering has been degraded along the path between the label and product (be it physical CD, downloaded file or streamed file). The best files will be "pre CD mastered" and will bypass
the Digital Aggregators (companies that process the files between the label and retailer.) These processes can have no regard for sq. For instance, a small label can have their files "auto-mastered" by an aggregator for $6 a song. How do you think that's going to sound?

If I understand, both Qobuz and MQA, do not at this time use aggregators, and according to Cookie, Qobuz goes to efforts to seek source masters that are "pre CD master."

He also seems to be doubtful how long, given the state of the music business, if such careful sourcing is sustainable.

Also discussed is possibility of improved sq by caching streamed files to then play offline.

I guess it did not make the Rocky Mountain launch date.
