Schiit Gungnir MB or Something Else?
For my digital front end, I have been thinking of running the following:
- Music downloads/streams & podcasts from a Macbook to a Gungnir (via USB)
- CD's from an Oppo 203 to Gungnir (via coaxial or optical)
Given my tasks and budget (~$1,300), is there anything else I should be considering?Last edited by joeinid; February 23, 2018 at 07:48 PM.

Only other DAC I would recommend from personal experience under 2k is the Ayre Codex. But with your budget it would have to be used.

A bit more money than $1300 but the new Chord Qutest should be a great DAC.

I'm hearing and reading great things about the BorderPatrol DAC if 24/96 or less is okay. I am thinking about trying this one for my Wyred4Sound modified Sonos.

The MP-D2 Mk II should also do everything he is looking for in CD to S/PDIF and Macbook to USB. The Border Patrol also a great choice.Main - JVC QL-Y7/Denon DL-301 Mk II, Gold Note PH-10, Jays CDT3 Mk3 , Auralic Aries G2.2, Holo May KTE, Supratek Cabernet, Kinki Studio EX-B7 monoblocks, Verity Audio Otello, (2) Rythmik F12SE, Audio Envy IC, SC & PC's, Triode Wire Lab PC's, Inakustik USB and I2S, (2) Puritan Audio Labs PSM-156 with Groundmaster City, Timbernation rack

Re: Schiit Gungnir MB or Something Else?
Jack,
I would absolutely get another MP-D2 dac but for some reason, it would not lock onto the 24/96 output of my modified Sonos via coax/spdif. Testing with a cd player, no problem. Using the Toslink output at 24/96 was working fine, but I tend to shy away from using Toslink.Fleetwood Deville by Oswald Mills Audio, Vienna Acoustics Haydn Jubilee, Wharfedale Linton w/ stands, Klipsch RB-75, Klipsch RP-160M.

Re: Schiit Gungnir MB or Something Else?
Best I can tell that is a hit or miss thing and I had a similar problem when I experimented with a 24/96 MQA file using the coax input. In Sean's case that might not be an issue. For you and the Sonos the BP would be the better bet. I've only seen on SE version for sale and it lasted about a day.

Thanks everyone. I’ll be looking into all of these. Kind of stinks the Border Patrol charges for both inputs.
