Re: What’s in your glass tonight?

May have a glass or 2 of Weller 12 year old to celebrate the completion of phase one (new hardwood floors) on the first floor of our home.

Phase 2 (new fireplace and entertainment wall) get completed next week.

Will be nice to have my system up and running again.
McIntosh/Sonus Faber/SimAudio, Woo Audio and Sennheiser stuff.

I think I have some Abreu in the cellar, possibly a 2006, I'll have a look.
Decanted for 4 hours and consumed with food over two days. The 2009 is awake and emerging from a tight, reticent, slumber. The Thorevilos was a deep, dark, carmine with a nose redolent of blackberries, cocoa, cassis, cedar, and cigar box. It's a big wine with medium tannins, ample structure, and a deliciously luxurious mouth-feel. Overall, I thought the 2009 Thorevilos was a very well-balanced wine with a finish that was remarkably long. IMO, the drinking window on this one has opened. If you have multiples, then it may behoove you to crack one now.

Unquestionably still young (for Abreu), the 2009 vintage in Napa was even and largely uneventful other than the late rains that rewarded those who harvested early. At any rate, it’s often illuminating to give a wine of pedigree a chance to make an impression on you at different stages of its maturation. It doesn't sound like the consensus believes that the 2009 Abreu Thorevilos has an absurdly long drinking window but hopefully it'll be fun finding out if they're right.

Even though I wasn't thinking about the background (my comment was directed at not being close to your 09 in year). Good eye..The Latour is easy. The Bryant Family is 94. One of my favorite CA wines.

Not quite in my glass yet but the new label from one of my favorite Vineyards is definitely right up the audiophile alley.

the bourbon bake off: Woodford reserve double oak, EH Taylor small batch, Angels Envy, Buffalo Trace and the wild card Michter's American. Elijah Craig, Knob creek and Billeit were honorable mentions, but since i consume them regularly it wasn't part of the impromptu shoot out.

As a fellow Bourbon drinker here is my take on the shoot out.
You can never go wrong with Buffalo trace. It's my every day for the better stuff I would go Elijah Craig. Had Colonel Taylor on my bar. I wasn't a fan but that is personal taste. Angel's Envy too spicy for me. You can get high proof but smooth.
I have branched out I'm working the Irish whiskeys and good Tequila these days.
    Enjoy

and I was a tequila/mezcal nut for years (puroagave) then went the other way IMO the Angel Envy is the furthest thing from 'spice' my tasting notes were dry fruit and roasted sweet corn. AE is finished in port wine barrels which mellows out the spirit. EH Taylor and Buffalo Trace are distilled in same house as Pappy Van Winkle and Eagle Rare. They're more alike than different, I rank them in the top class of 'straight bourbon' regardless of price, reputation, etc. The Michter's is interesting because its aged in used bourbon barrels and as such cannot be called 'straight bourbon.' The Woodford double oak is fine enjoyed neat, but IMO is best in Old Fashioneds which balances out the heavy oak notes.

Yes I knew EH Taylor Buffalo Trace Pappy and Eagle Rare were the same distillery. I was lucky enough to win 2 lotteries for Eagle Rare 17 year old 2012. Best bourbon I have ever had. Michter's I have never had don't why but since you mention it I will get out and try it maybe retry some others. It's been awhile you get used to what you like.
    Thanks for your take.

I agree. But you'll have to admit, Riedel's are a much better glass to use when entertaining your more heavy handed friends and relatives... And then for some others, it's red Solo cups only.

Re: What’s in your glass tonight?

You guys have much classier tastes than me. Most of my limitations are the result of the horrible heartburn from anything other than “white” liquors such as some tequila and all vodka and why my favorite of all drinks these days is Deep Eddy’s Vodka. I was turned onto it by a liquor store in Montana years ago as an alternative to Tito’s and I stuck. Truly my favorite.

Your jealously and arrogance responding to my bourbon tasting is uncalled for and shows how stupid u are. U had to say something so u attack my glasses?? (For the record they are not Riedel.)

I really wanted the 16 because that was what I sampled at the Whiskey Bar, but I could only get the 8 at my store. Did not like it as much as the 16. My wife says it tastes like wet band aids.

Very special local small batches. I can just breath this butterscotch aroma all day. This is the Chestnut, I am going back to day to get the just released Hickory. The owner does old house and barn reclamation and uses the wood for his barrels, hence the name of this, Reclamation.

be careful who you call 'stupid', the Scots spell it whisky and when used in plural it's whiskies not whiskeys, that would be Ireland.

Re: What’s in your glass tonight?

Stopped in both Free Will for a flight and then Hewn Spirits to get another bottle of Reclamation and also picked up a bottle of Red Barn Rye.

Only got one of these in Orange this year, leftovers selling for $27. Had all 3 styles on tap on Black Friday when it's released.

Re: What’s in your glass tonight?

I think I had the best bottle ow wine I have ever had last night. Sand Castle Winery is on the east coast of Pennsylvania. Owned and run by an old German under strict EU practices. Ii have had several wines, and went too the Winery for a Valentine's Day Pairing a few years ago. The do several really good ones but are comparatively not cheap. They recently opened a Tasting shop closer to us where they serve and sell the wine as well as Oils and Vinegars you can sample and buy. My wife was with friends and stopped there, she had a glass of the Cab and ended up buying a bottle which we saved for last night. From the first sip to the glass with smoked pork chops, it held up and never changed. The initial taste and smell was Tart Cherries that ended with sweet Raspberries. Unreal for a Grape Wine.
