5 of the best turntables in the world?

I read this list. OMG, I'm speechless.

Re: 5 of the best turntables in the world?

If I ever get back into analog I’d look at Linn. I have an old Technics 1200 collecting dust with a pile of vinyl, but my digital sounds so good I don’t see the need for it anymore.

Re: 5 of the best turntables in the world?

Well Mike a couple of your lines made the list. Silly me, I had one of the best tables in an older P3 and foolishly moved to a Clearaudio, who knew . He did preface by saying a table on the list would have to be one he tried. I still think he should maybe remove the word "best" and replace with something like "value", or, "my favorite 5".

I suppose it's debateable if the LP12 or P3 should be on a best list, but, they are proven classics to be sure.

Apart from the Rega its a reasonable list , as any of the other 4 could achieve a high level of playback and this is obviously "his " top 5 best in the world list ....

Isn’t this more like a most expensive list ?

But seriously, I think good results can be achieved in several ways, with suspended and mass platter systems being two popular concepts.

On that somewhat funny list in the article the Vpi Avenger is pretty good and I also heard the Thales recently and liked it. But there are serious contenders missing like Brinkmann, TW Acoustic, Oracle, AMG, Music Hall, Avid, Feikert, Linn and many more.

I believe that this list is just made to create a buzz.
    It makes no sense.

Nothing but a buzz article to put a burr under the butt of turntable gurus. And it worked.

Re: 5 of the best turntables in the world?

Here is the deal boys and girls: Everyone of us could create a list of what we consider are the 5 best turntables in the world and NO ONE would agree with your list. First of all, no one has heard every table in the world. Let's say you claim to have heard half the tables in the world, you still are just giving your opinion about what you like and what you heard. And if you claimed to have heard half the tables in the world, how many of those listening sessions were conducted in your room with your system? Oh, just a handful?? You heard a bunch of tables at shows and that is supposed to mean something in the grand scheme of things?

We have vocal people in this hobby who don't even own a stereo system or a room to put it in who travel around the world listening to other people's systems and they post "reviews" of their short term listening sessions of a strange system in a strange room and somehow draw meaningful conclusions and try and pass on advice to other people who are looking to upgrade their systems. Their "advice" is worth about as much as someone putting together a list of the five best anything in this hobby.
Micro Seiki SX-8000 air bearing table, SME 312s arm, SME 3012R arn, Dynavector XV-1s cartridge, Lyra Etna SL cartridge, ARC Ref 3 phono stage, Otari MX-55 2 track R2R, Ampex 350 tape repros, Roon Nucleus Plus music server, HiFi Rose 150B DAC, ARC Ref 6, ARC Ref 75 with KT-150s, Parasound JC5 amp , JBL 4345 speakers, Viero Equilibro Level 3 speaker cables, and Definitive Technology Ref subs.

It seems like a strange list, but many TTs, if set up right, in the right system, can sound great. My Kuzma M is as good as anything I have heard.

Well actually i know a guy like that, have had many discussions with him and his eval tends to be pretty spot on, with the stuff I'm familiar with , well , with but a few exceptions, ( disagree on the Linn ) nothing like and very different to some of the neophytes Audio reviewers we see floating around the internet today writing powder puff reviews.

BTW, evaluating TT's are froth with errors which usually require a very tedious back and forth to truly crown a king, if even possible, maybe an Audio Shark top 5, with everyone putting up their top 5 TT selection ....

The nonsense I'm talking about has gone on for too long and everyone on the forum in question seems to play along. Stereo system by committee and apparently when the day finally comes for setup (and it's been what, almost 7 years?), that will be done by a committee too.

Re: 5 of the best turntables in the world?

Maybe the whole thing is about getting hits on the webpage to support the advertisers. example of two types

    • Pay per click is the most popular type of advertisement. Each advertiser pays differently and you are paid when visitors click on an ad.
    • Pay per impression pays according to the amount of times the ad is displayed on your website. This means that for every thousand times the ad is displayed, you get paid. Each advertiser pays differently but typically the amount will be small since all it takes is for someone to open your web pag

5 of the best turntables in the world?

You talking about PTA? Because I don't even get $40 a month from our ads. LOL.

For those that remember the very early days of AS, I had started out accepting a few ads from manufacturers. But the minute a post not complimentary of their product(s) went up, my phone started ringing with demands to "delete that post".

Now I let Google manage all the ads, and accept the pennies to help off set some of the costs. 5 of the best turntables in the world?
