    For the money....

I have a network of Gryphon dealers in Europe and Asia that I communicate with on FB Messenger. They've carried the brand for years or decades. They all told me - unanimously - get the Colosseum!

Re: Gryphon Colosseum arrives at Suncoast Audio

“And the Antileon Evo’s sound, too, differs a bit from those of the Mephisto and Colosseum. It’s not quite as quiet as either of the earlier amps, though so close that in listening it made no difference. After all, we don’t listen with an ear pressed against a tweeter, which was the only time I could hear any noise from the Evo. Although I’m now relying only on my memories of the sounds of those older amps, I can say that the Evo’s soundstaging was just a touch bigger than the Colosseum’s, and virtually matched the Mephisto’s. I also think the Evo sounded more, um, analog than the Mephisto or Colosseum. By which I mean not that its sound was “slower” or less resolving, but that it was so cohesive -- entirely of a piece -- and easygoing. Though the Antileon Evo has impressive resolving capabilities and admirable speed and agility, those traits didn’t stand out and call attention to themselves; instead, I simply appreciated how natural the Evo sounded with any music I threw at it.”

Well, it seems that not only for the money .... but it is true that we each have our preferences in sound.

Thanks for posting the videos Mike. Will you be getting the Pandora or Kalliope to pair with the amp?

Re: Gryphon Colosseum arrives at Suncoast Audio

I just did a few numbers and I'm a bit puzzled.
If I want to buy an AR Ref 6 in Spain, the MSRP is € 16,900, which at the current exchange rate is $ 19,900. The MSRP in the USA is $ 14,000, the cost over is 42%.
The MSRP in Spain for a Gryphon Colloseum is € 44,000 or $ 51,800. Assuming for the USA the same over cost, the Colloseum should have an MSRP of $ 73,500 and yet it is $ 49,000. Unless the USA has entered the European Union and I have not heard, I can only say; guys from USA
WHAT THEY HAVE LUCK WITH GRYPHON !!!

There are plenty of examples where it's upside down the other way. Accuphase anyone? Soulution and others.

    P.S. It's "Gryphon", not "Griphon".

Also, currency rates have a lot to do with it.

Surely the exchange rate explain "perfectly" why in the US a product of the EU, is $ 2,800 cheaper than in Europe (I am that for finance, I am very clumsy).

Re: Gryphon Colosseum arrives at Suncoast Audio

VAT might be the culprit, if the prices quoted include it.
The REF 6 would be about 14000 euros, without VAT. I believe Spain is 21%, that would put it right around the final price you quoted.
By the same token, the Gryphon, when sold to the US, has no VAT, so the export price is actually way lower than the 44000 euros quoted.
There's sales tax in the US, but it's usually around 6-9%, and it's rarely included in the quoted prices...

I did have the chance to listen to the Colosseum with the M3s today. While it was a short 15 minutes, the musicality, clarity and stage were staggering. I had no time to do a comparison with the DAG S-250, that may happen later. This Gryphon amp sounds wonderful.

Mike has done an outstanding job getting some fantastic lines. Visits to his store are always a treat.
