    1) Aesthetix IO Signature dual power supply for my stereo setup, currently running a Lyra Etna on a Graham Phantom II Supreme.

    2) Ayre P-5xe for my mono setup. Michell Tecnoarm and a Miyajima Zero cartridge.

Not a fan of the sound of their amps, preamp and digital. The phono is excellent however, but I️ prefer tubes in my phono. YMMV.

Re: what Phono stage do you using?

I am a bit uncertain right now on SS vs valve phonos, mostly due to lack of experience of comparing.

I compared burmester to AR ph 7 (yes, that is a lower model of AR) wth Fuuga, an Italian one called AM audio to VTL 6.5 with zyx r1000, and XV-1s through Lyra connoisseur with AN IO through Tron GT.

In each case, the SS was much better. Most obvious was with piano, where range was more, attack on leading edge was better, you could feel the dynamic and nuance of each note, and it flowed better. Noise floor was lower, more resolution, and violin was excellent. Richard Mak's review of burmester seems to agree, it is the AR ref 3 that he rates at a similar level, not 2.

The exception was comparing Airtight to a much more expensive music first phono where the AT was much better, with the Proteus cart.

This is different from my pre amp experiences where the valves make me more involved even if I can see disadvantages on noise floor and dynamics and bass. And I don't like the other burmester electronics. Just the phono. I preferred AR LS 27 much more to burmester pre even with the burmester amp. And the LS 29 to the constellation pre with constellation inspiration amp. Possibly with phono it happens because vinyl is musical enough for information to just present itself

In non compares, the Dartzeel phono appears to have achieved the same benefits, though not Pass. I remain in awe of the Aesthetix, which I have ruled out due to three boxes. I was amazed at the transformation in the Allnic 3000 on the recti upgrade. I can only imagine how good the 5000 with the KR recti, the 242 already in it, and the 300b upgraded to the Takatsuki must be. And it is two boxes. I hope to arrange a compare between the 3000 and the Thoress sometime.

However all these are non horn, and with horns and SETs valve phonos have been wonderful, and I haven't had an SS experience with horns except that FM 122 in one of my favorite systems, the yamamura, which happens to use all SS electronics.

So to summarize, Allnic, thoress, airtight on the valve side vs burmester on SS side. I am not going to spend as high as CH. One guy in Texas did move from h5000 to the CH. Higher models of AR will be interesting to listen to as they really upped their game with their recent preamps and amps.

Re: what Phono stage do you using?

The Grandinote Celio gives you a tube-like sound with an SS amp due to the Magnetosolid architecture. If that is not enough you can up the game by running two of them as monos, one for each channel.

the Esoteric E-03 has a slightly full loose bass with exceptional treble extension but can be a little forward in the lower treble.

the Accuphase - Stability is the word - the bass is tighter and faster, but the rest of the music sounds coherent. Accuphase has exceptional soundstaging and stability in instrument placement within that soundstage without spotlighting any particular frequency.

Same here, except I’ve only had it in the rack for one day. Dead dead dead quiet, much wider and deeper soundstage, but brittle as ice right now. Bass comes out a little more with each spin, but the first three of four album sides were excruciating. I own a full rack of accuphase stuff though, so I have every confidence it will continue to improve. But wow - painful at first.

It will sound like garbage for 20-30 hours. For a while I thought I had made a mistake. Then everything starts to bloom - highs get extended and bass gets tighter and more tuneful.
Ends up one hell of a coherent music playing machine.

The AudioNet with or without the upgraded power supply is really good. It is my favorite by a good margin. It is quiet, extended, resolves detail better than any I have had. It has nice dense images, really no weaknesses I have heard. For classical none I have had could throw a stage like it does.

A few years back I built a K&K Audio Maxxed Phono Amp with silver Lundahl step up transformers. It’s still a rock star.

I've always liked NOS Telefunkens for 12AX7s, but taste in tubes is like taste in single-malt scotches, so YMMV.

Sylvania's are generally very bold with good punch. (think rock music)
I always prefer a 5751 in place of a 12ax7. Slightly lower gain but a much quieter and more refined sounding tube.
As has been previously stated many flavors available and it's really a personal preference.

Re: what Phono stage do you using?

I agree on the 5751's if you phono stage will allow it but "Phono" grade 5751's are general a premium. I would call Andy at Vintage Tube Services and discuss it with him. The Matsushita tubes will get you a good taste of the Mullard warmer sound without the Mullard price. The black plate RCA's are also very good.

Good luck with the ARC phono stage Mike. My buddy who has the same MBL speakers that you use is using an ARC. He has a MBL line stage, mono block MBL amplifiers also. He actually has the Reference 10 and seems to love it. I have heard it a couple times and it sounded marvelous, but it is really hard to say it was the phono stage making the difference when everything he has is in a completely different league than I use .

Zesto Andros Deluxe II. Just upgraded from the original Deluxe. The upgrade includes the replacement of the original transformer with a toroidal piece. The upgrade is really transforming in that the piece is more dynamic with better bass control and quieter while maintaining the musicality that the Zesto’s are known for.

B.M.C MCCI & AcousticPlan. both have 'current injection' or transimpedance inputs. The AcousticPlan also handles my London Decca and is switchable from LOMC to MM carts...and it has tubes.
